I am also using granite for vanity. It is a better choice as it is more scratch resistant than SS. It is harder than SS and only second to diamond. Also water resistant. After moving in for abt 3 mths, my kitchen SS top has scratches but luckily i did not chose black...so it is not visible. If price is not a concern and difference is not alot, go for granite.

Kiang Sing Hong Upper Bukit Timah branch : 67600365 Kiang Sing Hong Sungei Kadut Warehse: 63682220 I was quoted a price of $120 and $60 for one drawer runner. So it is depends on contractor and how much is your reno cost... I think if the price difference is not too much. Don't bargain too much and let your contractor do so as to ensure a good job done. If not he may just do a shabby job... I think he may rip you off again if you have additional things in the later stage...hehe You know..save initially, but later kena carrot...... From my opinion, blum hinge is just as the same normal hinge. The soft closing mechanism is just a clip on to the hinge. Anyone can just do it...So don't kena deceive by your ID who may tell you a nice story...

Hi, i also have problems with my TV/signals but not to that kind of extend. Still in the process of resolving... First of all, you can try using the original TV pt to test whether is the relocated pt giving you problem or not?? If it does, you can get your contractor to revisit your hse. Or you can try with another TV set(if you have) to test if it is the TV set that is giving problem?? Second, is your unit a new flat or resale? From my knowledge, switching to MATV(free to air) or Starhub (cable signals) are done by Starhub or maybe TC, because the box is locked. I hv seen the technician do it o/s my hse. For new flats, TV signals are turned on by default and to MATV. So when Starhub technician come, they will check the signals and switch to cable signals. God luck....

Because there is a beam across my kitchen. So mine is installed as per your 2nd picture. If there is no beam, you can extend the hood all the way. It depends on individual... So my contractor has to cut abit of the hood. But there is the ventilation gap for the air to escape. And between the gap. I have cabinets for putting small stuffs... I think by doing carpentry to cover the rest of the hood makes it looks nicer. But with the ventilation covered, oil will definitely stick on the wall from time. So leaving it both ways has their pros and cons.

If you are looking at Duro brand, it is fixed price. Get from anywhere is the same. Home-fix, self-fix or neighbourhood shops... but be sure to check your gate dimensions before committing. Most shops don't offer refund. There are other brands like Singlock and etc. I have tried Vanni before, but it was unable to fit in. Luckily i could get it refunded.. An advice which i got from shop owners, it is convenient to get those all in one(gate, door, letter box) key. But if possible, it is adviced not to replace the letter box key. If you forget to remove it after retrieving your letters, it could be disasterous. As it is very easily identified with the word "DURO"

You can get from a authorised hardware shop in upper bukit timah area by Blum. It cost ard $3.00 for a blum hinge and the soft closing mechanism. I was quoted $16 by my ID which i did not take up. Althought it is much cheaper, you have to factor in other costs like labour and ID profits and etc..

Any movers to recommend?
porkypig replied to koras's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
I have engaged 138 professional movers. Although workers are foreigners except driver and supervisor, they are very professional. Boxes(3 sizes) are given unlimited except you have to place a refundable desposit. They are very fast.. I have specific timing to move into my new hse and it was promptly taken note by the salesman. No problems with them. -
Hi all, You may want to check TPY town council website for details. They have appointed companies for all general works. Price list is also included for comparison. Or you can check your block lift landing notice board. They have pasted a copy for reference. BTW, if your unit still has minor problem, you can still get the service centre to help as long as they are around.. It is FOC because your unit is still under WArranty by them... I have wall cracks and flushing system storage water overflowing problem. They have helped me to rectify promptly without charge.

Stylish Dustbin Or Rubbish Bin To Put At Home. Where To Buy?
porkypig replied to Megadeth's topic in Home Furnishings
I saw Brabantia sensor bin at Robinson Centrepoint. But it doesn't comes cheap.... Many range over there... -
Out of curiousity, how much u paid for pergo laminates?? Is it with groove lines or no??
-
Yup.. Usually ID will quote higher lor..they hv to earn their commission.. If you are putting heavy stuff like pots and pans, it is better and safer to go for runners. If i am not wrong, Blum runners has heavy duty runners. And replacement is very troublesome lor.. Ikea are also using Blum but if i am not wrong they designed it for Ikea stuff. I hv not brought any hinges from there so unable to comment much. But since it is the same company, quality wise should be there. Reputation is at stake...hehe Why not check out the prices and compare with the contacts that i PM you?? Plus replacement, if damage due to wear and tear, must i buy the replacement only from ikea or any hardware shop will do.
-
Ya.. I think the quality is indeed compromised. Maybe you want to check with your ID whether he can replace for FOC?? I supposed there is a after reno warranty. But probably he would say it is not his fault as warranty does not include wear and tear... Usually ID gives normal hinges and etc to maximise their profit margin. Thats where we suffer from..
-
Ermm...Not very sure.. You hv to consider Made in China, Taiwan and etc..Plus brand lor.. But i think durability is still far most important. As i don't think you would want to change it very often..I PM you a hardware shop contact and u try asking??

Requesting Spare Tiles From Hdb
porkypig replied to lxiul's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Tiles are not given FOC by BSC, they will refer you to their contractors. And they will bring the toilet/kitchen tiles to your doorstep and you pAy for it. Usually it is about $1-2 per piece. For damages before reno, BSC will do it FOC. But after reno, it depends lor..But can try reporting it. If the holes are created after something is removed, usually you can get your ID and he will get his tiler to replace. Labour and parts charges depends on your ID whether he absorb. -
Due to wear and tear, most probably the hydraulic plunger has to be changed. Safest way is to remove it and bring to hardware shop to source for similar one. Hardware shops like homefix, self-fix or you can try hardware shops along Geylang road (T*i Seng H*rdware) or yellowpages.com.sg
-
My opinion is branding second and Budget first. If your budget allows you, go for the best. Hi all, Anyone has a list of solid surface companies? Pse PM me.. Thanks. I am thinking of approaching the companies directly instead of going through ID. BTW, my hse reno has already completed and am now thinking of adding something.. hehe
-
1 set mean one hinge and one soft closing mechanism. i buy and install myself... yup..drawer uses runner. They are not called hinges. If i am not wrong, it is hydraulic plunger. Frm what i think there shouldn't be extra charges for installing BLUM. Because BLUM hinges are just like normal hinges. And the soft closing mechanism is just a clip on to the hinge. Extra info..BLUM is one of the cheapest option. The better ones are Hafele where the soft closing mechanism are incorporate together with the hinges.
