  1. Items to move 150 carton boxes (put a deposit of $150 for 150 boxes which was unprecedented); hall (2 tables, 8 chairs, 8 plastic stools, 1 chaise lounge, 2 storage cabinets. Samla and Slugis boxes); bedrooms (side cabinet, drawer cabinet, bedside cabinets, 2 mattresses & 1 sofa bed); kitchen & laundry (fridge, hob, hood, laundry baskets & household cleaning items in buckets) electronics (Panasonic Plasma TV, Asus desktop, Asus monitor) clothings (paid extra $90 for 3 clothing racks) Date of Move: Saturday 13 June, 8am Completion of Move: 3pm (7 hours!) Cost: $1628 (excluding deposit of S$150 for carton boxes) Rating: ==================================== We won't recommend CitiMap Movers Singapore after what happened at last Saturday move which took 7 hours (8am to 3pm) to complete plus the stress of dealing with rude, difficult, uncooperative and unprofessional movers. No team work. And too many smoke breaks. Citimap or Storage Movers? We are not sure if CitiMap Movers Singapore has sub-contracted out this job to SuperStorage Movers. First, we were to put $150 deposit for 150 carton boxes (which wasn't the case when we hired Citimap all these time), and were given a mixture of Citimap and SuperStorage Movers carton boxes. On the day of the move, the CitiMap Movers Singapore rep wore SuperStorage Movers polo shirt which added to our speculation. Where Is The Move Supervisor?! In the past, the move supervisor would introduced himself and discuss the move plan. For the past few moves, the supervisors were given the move plan, and we also pasted the move plan in the lift car so they could refer to these plan where to put the items. This time round, no one came to introduce himself as the supervisor. When I came out of the bedroom to the hall, it was obvious that the movers had been smoking in our apartment! The movers were obnoxious. They were commenting in Hokkien (thinking that we do not understand) and made many rude comments in Hokkien. "Don't know how to read labels" We have even printed labels to highlight which carton boxes are heavy, fragile or delicate which should not be stacked. When we reminded them, they retorted that they do not know how to read the labels, and that we should not teach them how to move. Rough Handling A few carton boxes were already showing signs of strain upon reaching our temporary location. 2 carton boxes gave way. I do not wish to speculate what is the condition of the 29 carton boxes of tableware, serve ware and glassware that are packed for storage to be moved in about 5 months' time. Not Prepared To Wrap Furniture The previous teams for our other moves were well prepared and wrap the items beyond our expectation with thick fabrics, recycled mattress covers, duvets, bubble wrap and cling wrap. This time, we are very disappointed with how our furniture were handled. This team of movers are not experienced and yet proud. They are ill prepared. Just as well we have a few spare mattress covers and duvets, and they used them to wrap our furniture for the move!! For our previous move, every piece of dining chair and furniture are well taken care of and properly wrapped. This time, the 6 chairs on wheels were not wrapped and they were rolled along the void decks! The bar stools were not wrapped either and placed on the walkway. Dining table, work desk, Oriental bedside cabinets, Ikea storage cabinets were not properly wrapped; corners were not protected. Same for fridge too. No Team Work If there is a supervisor, then he's not able to get his guys to work together - carton boxes were not stacked as marked, carton boxes haphazardly stacked. Throughout the day, we have to bear with terrible attitude of the movers. I was so stressed out by the behavior and attitude of the movers that I took a break in the car to cool myself down. Trolley Left Unattended At Lift Lobby When I got back from the car, I chanced upon a trolley of 6 carton boxes randomly stacked and a $700 ironing system left unattended to at the ground floor lift lobby! After that, we stationed ourselves at 3 checkpoints just to make sure our stuff were taken care of, and not to mention, bear with their rude comments in Hokkien that they thought we don't understand. Unprofessional The movers said that we are fussy and they have never come across such detailed labeling of carton boxes. It goes to show that this bunch of clowns have not handled big move or office move before. We are not movers by profession but have moved many times enough to know what to expect. For our 3rd major move, which was also handled by Citimap, the items were packed for 18 months storage and the move went on as planned; boxes stacked accordingly for the move in 18 months' time. Thus this move with 80% that are meant for 5 months storage is easy by comparison. However, Citimap has failed us this time. Updating Past Recommendation In the past, it has always been Kenny who arranged for our move and we have been singing their praises and recommending them. However, after what we have experienced, we are revisiting all the forum recommendations and updating them with the latest. Thus, I'm putting this down to remind ourselves why we won't be recommending Citimap in future.
  2. We just moved again last Saturday (Telok Blangah Crescent to Bedok) and used CitiMap Movers Singapore. However, this time, Kenny send his colleague. We won't recommend CitiMap Movers Singapore after what happened at last Saturday move which took nearly 7 hours (8am to 3pm) to complete plus the stress of dealing with rude, difficult and incooperative movers. No team work. And too many smoke breaks. I do not wish to speculate what is the condition of the 29 carton boxes of tableware, serve ware and glassware that are packed for storage to be moved in about 5 months' time. We will move again in 5 months' time and is on the look out for good movers too.

  5. We have always Citimap and have arranged for them for our 5th move in June. Alan from Citimap came over at about 3pm yesterday to give us a quote and 2 hours later, boxes, tapes and bubble wraps were delivered. For our other 4 moves (from one rental to another 2002, 2004, 2006, and to a HDB in 2008), Kenny sent a very experienced team of movers; meticulous in the wrapping of big items (marble table, cabinets, fridge, washers, furniture, stand lamps, etc that couldn't fit into a carton box), and a few of them even remembered how to tear down and put together a few pieces of furnitures that they have handled for us for the past 4 moves. Kenny and his team made the moves such a breeze for us, and also, I don't need to rush to unpack. Every now and then when I have unpacked and gathered a big pile of flatted carton boxes, he will arrange for collection. Thus we would highly recommend them. KK
  6. If the window frame is green, it is likely that it is powder coated paint. And it's very likely that you can use Rustoleum paint over it. Perhaps you might want to do a test panel of your bathroom window frame. We get our Rustoleum paint from HomeFix; the Malay assistant at AnchorPoint has been very helpful.
  7. Hi PGal, I chanced upon one of the replies you had posted and noted your "Current Status : Just called Town council to complain abt the water mark on my bedroom wall.." which prompted me to share with you what is going on with my friend's flat in Tampines. Looks like you might have the same problem as my friend. She bought the unit early last year. When it's a rainy, the water would seep in for both rooms - water leaking from power socket on water, water leaking from little holes on the wall above where the window panels are, moldy spots on the walls, ceiling, etc. It's really stressful as she couldn't arrange her things in proper in that room as she is still patiently waiting for the town council peeps to rectify it. So, do check out carefully where could be the problem areas; check with the previous owners; ask the agent. Hope they are not in any of the areas that you might have built in cabinets. Keep us posted on how it goes and I'll share it with my friend too. KK
  8. Just got back from a discussion with the ID. He advised that the best that the solid surface worktop contractor could do is to buffer the worktop to remove the stain after CNY.

  10. myworld, dont mistake me that i was laughing at you being superstitious. I agree with you about those spooky things. I have moved many times and there were indeed some corners of the flat/house that would cause some uneasy feeling. For one of the rental flat, any of my friends who slept in that guest room felt uneasy, except for one fierce lady friend. Many of them had weird dreams. For a flat that I used to own at Teban Gardens, a few told me that the spooky corner is at the guest toilet area and that they saw some 'things'. For my grandparent's old place, the 3rd floor attic was the spooky one. Only my daring and fierce uncle dare to stay up there. Even passing the stairways to the attic brought on goose pimples. Anyway, my friend recommended that we threw a handful of rice at all corners of the house when we first move into any place and say something like "excuse me, this is my place now". Thus, I like to open up all the room doors and windows, even if it meant having to spend extra few minutes each evening to close up the windows.
  11. Interestingly enough, we only see 1 of such tv antenna cable box in our flat as we thought there would be 2 of such being this flat was 2 x 3 room flat. Anyway, we kept the box there for amusement. Who knows, maybe one day we might need it to watch the news when Starhub point fails. When Starhub point fails, internet connection fails too. Come to think of it, home phone would fail too. Hope that day don't come!
  12. Watch this animation and you will understand why it's called PD door. I believe they are the only company in SG doing this type of door system. We have 5 of such doors installed - 2 utilities room, 1 shower area, 1 toilet, 1 guest bedroom rear exit. KK
  13. myworld, you are funny! I dislike having those spooky corners in the apartments too. I simply dislike going in there to get stuff, never know when I would be surprised by roaches or spiders and the like. yikes. We had store room under the stairways in one of our rental apartment. It's horrible. It's crump and stuffy. When we want to reach for anything at the back of the store room, there were just so many things to move aside - MJ table, vacuum cleaners, sports gears, rabbits stuff [litters and hay]. Luggages were just too clumsy to be stored there and they ended up upstairs in one of the bedrooms. No store room I didn't have a store room in the past at a 5 room point block flat unit nor in one of the rental apartment we had before and we created a storage area behind our simple bamboo pole wardrobe system. So behind our clothings that hang like boutiques, we store our luggages, mahjong table, bowling balls, exercise gears, vacuum cleaner, toyogo boxes of documents [on shelf above our height], etc. It was relatively easy to access to the things behind the clothings. Utility Room = Store Room ? Now we have 2 utility rooms - Utility Room L - for the maid; Utility Room R for 3 bunnies. At first, we used Utility Room R as a store room. Handyman & Computer Repair Stuff Tom's quite a handyman and thus has many tools, tool boxes, ladder, workbench, toyogo boxes of fittings and such. On top of that, a few CPUs, monitors, laptops sitting around to store, awaiting for him to find the time to fix them. When he had all these things in the utility room, it was terrible. When he has to fix stuff, he would bring the tools and what nots from that room and left them where he was working on [Excuse: too troublesome to put them back, going to use them in awhile]. So imagine, a set of tools and boxes in the guest room, another set in the kitchen, yet another set in the lounge, ladder plonked here and there, work bench in the kitchen one day, another day in the lounge. Then he hadn't even started on his computer repair hobby. *i faint liao* Storage solution - Wall to wall shelvings with Ikea Broder wall system in one of the bedrooms [Front Room]. It's easy to reach for the things. When it's easy to access, that's mean easy to put them back too and would be used for more often instead of them being a white elephant. If he wish to saw anything, it's all controlled mess in that front room. Work bench does not leave that room; ladder gets back to its place easily. And when he's not using these stuff, just draw the curtains and there, mahjong room! Luggages, Toyogo Boxes + Bunnies So you see, Utility Room R is for 3 bunnies + luggages + toyogo boxes of documents. In a way, it is an ideal room for bunnies as we can contain the mess when we groom the bunnies. No clumps of fur rolling around in the lounge. Vacuum cleaner goes into the cabinet in the kitchen - out of sight, easy to access, do not obstruct anything, together with the other attachments. My maid used to leave it sitting around anywhere she reckoned convenient instead of putting it in the store room. Now, she has no excuse. In the same cabinet, we have space for a basket of paper shopping bags and another toyogo box of recycle bags to grab before heading to the supermarket. Pantry Cabinet was built to store can food, jars of stuff, toyogo boxes of dried goods, instant noodles, teas, coffee, milk, organic food stuff, rice, spare bottles of cooking oil, olive oil, sauces and such. In that way, we do not buy more than what we need. Cleaning Agents Cabinet stores dishwashing liquid refills, cartons of laundry powders, bottles of softeners, bleach, etc. Also, brooms, dustpans, bamboo pole fork and any other cleaning agents goes into this cabinet. Uh, recycle plastic bags for the chute. Insecticide sprays goes into this cabinet. Toilet paper, boxes of tissue papers, kitchen paper towels goes to the cabinet with extra rolls of alum. foil and cling wraps. Sports gears - Tennis bag + rackets; Squash bags + rackets; Badminton rackets; Bowling Balls; Inline Skates; Exercise mats; Reverse Pull Up Boots; Knee Braces - all goes into a cabinet created to hide the DB box in the lounge. Xmas Tree & Accessories goes into the cabinet which was once a wall separating the lounge and master bedroom. CNY decoration goes into this cabinet too, along with wrapping papers, toyogo box of ribbons and tapes. In the same cabinet, plentiful of storage of board games, photo albums, 6 stacks of Ikea boxes of sewing projects, sewing machine, pottery art stuff, instruction manuals, wires, cables, packing materials, etc. Store Room? Would I want a store room? No. Scary after this 2 month stint of using the utility room for his stuff, and especially with a maid who loves to chuck things into the store room and forgets where things are. Space planning Since you'd be renovating and planning the space, think departmental stores *hehehe* categorize the things and create the cabinets for them instead of stuffing everything into the store room. Make every square inch a usable space. And no dark, spooky corner in the apartment.
  14. Have you pop by Universal Union at Geylang? Near UU, there is another 2 other shops that have some interesting bathroom and kitchen fittings to check out; not to mention the lighting shops too. At UU, we were serviced by a super friendly and patient young man, Wilson. We did our leg work and drew up a list of bathroom and kitchen fittings when we went there. It's easier to compare the pricing and he gave us a good price. Here's a short list of what we bought that might help in your search for bathroom and kitchen fittings:- W.Heater: ARISTON Storage Heater Ti 1.5Litre [uU: $200] Mixer (MBR Bathroom): GROHE Thermostatic Shower Mixer Atrio Jota 34 062 000 [uU: $1677. About $200 off from what we would pay at Grohe, Parklane shop] Mixer(Common Bathroom): RAPETTI Thermostatic Shower Mixer 9520015000 [Ferrara AsiaPac: $50. Prefer this mixer, easier to control the lever than the Grohe Mixer.] Shower Head (MBR Bathroom): HANSGROHE Raindance Allrounder Set AIR [uU: $615] Shower Head(Common Bathroom): OUF Free Shower Set HANSGROHE lookalike [uP: $180. UU: $125. Just as good as the $615!] WC: CRIZO CWC-2340-WT [AM: $399. UU: $300] Kitchen Sink Mixer: VR UNION HFVSP 1001SA2 [simSiangChoon: $192. We didn't like the retractable extension hose in most sink mixer thus this really fits the bill.] Jumbo Sink: Foster Built-In 1 bowl Sink Anti Scratch 910 x 500 x Depth215mm; 1mm thickness [Rhoyxon: $824. Highly recommended if hv budget. Planning to get the anti scratch small sink to replace Mondi s.steel sink.] Hob: ARISTON PH 730 RT IX [Mayer: $489. UU: $445] KK PS. For makan, the teochew porridge opp. UU is good; smelly taiwan tau fu is just a stone's throw away too.
  15. Thanks de Pierre for your valuable advice. I will discuss with the ID on Friday to explore the options. What do you think of those work tops from Ikea? Are those forms of laminates? *work top idiot* KK
  16. Hi Clockwork, I agree with you about the grouting for tiles. My first kitchen top was of grey homogeneous tiles; easy to clean and looks great. My 2nd kitchen top was of smaller pieces of ceramic tiles as it was a country styled kitchen with similar wall tiles. Now with this kitchen, I was going to try Rhoyxon anti scratch stainless steel worktop for the washing area and tiles for the prep area. And likewise, the ID strongly recommended using solid surface work top despite our preference for tiled work tops. So, we will see what happens after CNY with what the solid surface fellas can do. The cooking hobs worktop is of cement screed and it's relatively easy to clean. We are considering to have cement screed work top for the prep area. Btw, have you chanced upon any reviews of those work tops available at Ikea? KK
  17. *take notes* Thanks CPE for your suggestion. What hot metal did you use? Do you have any problem with stains? It's quite an eye sore on the counter top now with this faint red stain. The ID didnt offer any solution to the stain problem. He mentioned that the solid surface contractor will do good the scratches when they visit to grind the cabinet and bar counter top. Another round of dust and mess.
  18. If possible, I would like to change the solid surface counter top to tiled counter top. That was my preference all along but the ID highly recommended the solid surface, ensuring us that it's easy to maintain, looks good, dahdeedah. Now, just only a few months into using it, I really dislike it! Scratches ... plentiful. The workmanship is so bad! The sinks cut out holes were so badly done. The silicon had came off within a month! It stains so easily! My maid left a packet of bread on the solid surface counter top and what do you know.... the print on the plastic left an ugly patch on the counter top. Another contractor tried using bleach to remove the stain. And the ugly patch is still there. There are other common kitchen stuff that would leave markings on our solid surface counter top too: -- mixing bowls rubber base of counter top dish racks rice cooker rubber studs blender rubber studs Actually, any kitchen appliances with rubber studs. I had to give away a whole set of mixing bowls as all 6 of them would leave grey markings on the solid surface counter top. That's so weird. In my previous 2 kitchens, it was tiled and I didnt have any of this problem. I do not know much of solid surface counter top and do wonder if it is of an inferior quality that caused all these problems. I will wait till after CNY to see what to do with this eye sore. KK
  19. Can your friend custom build dining table? Any website to view? KK
  20. Sometime ago whilst looking for a tip to store basil, I chanced upon tips on getting rids of ants. Wikihow's article is a good read and I particularly like this tip :- - quote - If you have pets and/or children around (see Warnings below) put the bait in a jam jar. Screw the lid tightly and seal with adhesive tape. Pierce two or three small holes in the lid, and smear the outside with a little bit of unpoisoned bait. If you're concerned about the jar getting knocked over and the poisoned bait spilling out, loosely pack the inside with cotton balls. - unquote - Now, what to use as bait? Other tips that I have bookmarked: - Baking soda and icing sugar - No poison necessary Talcum powder - An Unwanted Invasion Cornmeal - Bill & Barbara Jo Another tip that I enjoy from Wikihow - "How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies" and made me wonder if fruit flies are really that stupid.
  21. Hi MiniC, Perhaps you could post a pix or two of your bathroom entrance to see how the doorway might be widen and how best to sort out the wall tiles and floor tiles around the door frame. I must add that the workers hacking the door frame aren't exactly the careful sort who would patiently chisel the door frame so be prepared for the damage. We moved in late July; had the door frames removed in early August; PD doors installed soon after and now, after 2 months of using these doors, we have no regrets putting up with that slight inconvenience to have the ugly door frames removed and PD doors installed in proper. I have yet taken any pixs of the PD doors what we have - 4 sets of PD doors altogether. Our sets of PD doors are alum.framed with black panels. We are still looking for the right primer to prep the surface before we paint it with chalk board paint. I think it'll be quite fun to leave some writings on the toilet doors, esp. on the inside to remind users to flush the WC! Or maybe a long story on the walls and door for one to read while one contribute to the national sewage system.
  22. If the stand is made of a material that you can paint on, you could get some Hammerite paint and just give it another colour. If the stand is in a bad condition that it will not be safe to use it for long, it may be better to find another option. If you are looking to change the stand to a stainless steel stand, you could visit these few shops: - Starlight Stainless Steel PL [Ah Ong; Mr ONG See Min] No. 90 Eunos Ave 7, [next to Singapore Handicraft Ctr], Singapore 409571. T: +65 64811283 Normal Stainless Steel Works 6600 Geylang Road, [park at Lor 40], Singapore. T: +65 68421513 Jackie's Enterprises (S) PL 57 Jalan Pemimpin, [bishan St 21], Singapore 577216. T: +65 62530355 Perhaps it's easier for other forum users to suggest if you could post a pix or 2 of the hob stand.
  23. Tip - moving heavy table/furniture I'm not sure if you have tired this method; we slip a rug under the legs of the marble top dining table and that makes moving it easier. That's the same when we move a few of the Ikea wardrobes from one room to another. Even for chest cabinets. In a way, it also prevents scratches on the flooring. Tip - Kids Corner for Young Visitors Distract the boy - get Wii. Even adults are distracted! Although we do not have young children living in with us, we have a "toys & kiddy books" corner set up in the guest bedroom for the regular kiddos so they would know where to go for the toys and books to amuse themselves when they visit. The favourite indoor toy is those big Lego blocks that I bought at some Lok Yang Way warehouse sales a good few years back. I suppose you have to be firm. Your house, your rules. Good Luck! PS. Oh, another thing, the kids can kick up a big fuss but rules are rules, they can't bring the toys from our cabinet home. Books, yes, we like kids to read and would be glad that they found another book they enjoy.
  24. Other than the pricing, I think it's the feel of it. I find that it's quieter on parquet than on laminate. Looks wise, parquet is not as variant as laminate.
  25. pinkpetter, your discussion thread is more than a discussion on flooring now. another discussion on Bunny-safe house and setup, ok? To support the bathroom mats in the litter tray, we use those wall organizer grid systems from Daiso. Click here for our litter tray set up. Those grids come in many sizes and are plastic coated. We bend the 2 ends of a frame to fit into a Toyogo plastic box; 2 frames for the white litter tray. Although it's plastic coated, this frame will get rusty after some time. PS. We use those metal BBQ grids for fencing the playarea.
