Hi Reiki,

First many thanks for allowing my friend and his wife to view your place. They want you to know that they find your place very nice and well maintained.

I saw in your blog that you have a new rug in the living room. I mean this one - http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4k_bBNkdd5g/TblnvdneVwI/AAAAAAAAAX0/SVFjfLCxlj0/s1600/Living+Room+01.jpg

Did you get it from Furniture Club too? What happen to the old one?

Cavalier

Hey there Cavalier,

They are a nice couple. Hope they have a better idea to go about with their renovation.

I bought the rug from Ling Shop (hope I am getting the right name here) @ Geylang Serai. The old one is now used for dining area.

Regards,

Reiki

Hi Salavanun,

Thanks for reading my blog.

Ah, so we are neighbours eh? The lift ugrading on my side has just started since May 23rd, though the other 3 lifts have completed. Geez, and it is really dusty! I am not sure about the boxing up of the recess area. So far, nobody is telling me anything.

Are you on the same side as me? And, pardon my ignorance, why are the contractors asking the recess area to be boxed up?

Regards,

Reiki

hi reiki

I guess they never approach u coz u never gated the recess. My previous owner like the rest who bought and gated have been told to boxed. Everything will be foc. juz that the recess area will shrink coz of the concrete boxing and another door infront of the main door. If we choose not to accept this proposal now later when scdf fire safety inspect we have to do it at our own cost! This requirement is due to the fact that lift lobby is soon coming up near our unit. So now i am thinking of removing the gate and do another flooring. Thus can escape the concrete box up

Hi Salavanum,

Many thanks for clarification. :)

I guess it only makes sense to take up their proposal for FOC. Hope you are able to find a solution, Salavanum.

Hi Reiki,

Read your blog and i must say I'm impressed with the way your house is done up.

Just a question though, is your TV console powder coated or just is it justlaminated with white laminates?

Thanks for reading my blog, 33sierra.

The TV console is laminated with high gloss white. Only our TV console and the dining area cabinet used this laminate material since it is a little costly. Good thing, it is easy to clean and it has maintained its 'whiteness' till now.

Your house is really nice. I like the simplicity and the minimalist decor.

Been reading your blog. Is this water proofing standard procedure or you requested your contractor to do it? Can you share with me how much you spent on your renovation?

Can I have the contact number of your ID? Is it possible to view your house?

Many thanks for the kind compliment, Vision. Yup, our place is rather simple and not sure if it is of a minimalist theme. We want to keep it bright, 'clean' (hence the additional boxing-up to conceal the wires) and 'white' (hence, the wall color and most cabinets). Our objective, during the renovation, was to provide the house with a sense of spaciousness.

Regarding the water proofing, we didn't ask for it. It was arranged by our ID. In fact, we were kinda surprise that such procedure was done.

I have PMed you the contact number of my ID and some other information.

Regards,

Reiki

Just taking an opportunity here to share about Curtain Shopping in Thailand.

Anyway, this is a little bit of a story between duck and chicken between us and the curtain maker. Was away on holidays to Bangkok and, as usual, the most part was shopping. It just happened, this time round, that there was a Home Decor Exhibition at Queen National Convention Center. Decided to look see - in fact, such exhibition looked much the same locally.

What caught us was the Big Sign 50% Sale on curtains. Fortunately, we had our curtain measurements logged in our iPhone. That, somehow, gave us the option to make our way to this curtain booth and enquired a possibility for order. The unfortunate part, only one lady out of the few from the booth could speak (very little) english. And, our Thai language is also half-past six.

We were surprised that the lady could accomodate us and to deliver our order within four working days (which normally, as she mentioned, took about 2 to 3 weeks). Must say that they had quite a collection and for 380 Bahts (about S$15) per yard (after the discount), we were quite happy to get these curtains.

It was rather difficult to communicate during the transaction. Fortunately, with our measurements and drawings, we were able to strike the deal. For a total of about S$185 for four pieces of curtains (inclusive of workmanship), must say that it was a steal. However, what we didn't realize, the price came with the aluminium rails which were delivered to our hotel (together with the curtains). We believed, should we have understood her and not to include the rails, the price could be lower.

Overall, the workmanship was impressive. They even ironed the curtains and had metal weight inserted at the bottom of every panels of the curtains! Let the pictures speak now ..

How it was bundled and delivered to us in Bangkok:

See how it was nicely ironed and also the metal weight inserted at the bottom of the curtains:

The curtains in the Living Room:

The curtains in the Dining Room:

The metal weight really makes the curtain to fall nicely.

I agree! Truly lovely! I've always been very impressed by the quality and skill of the workmanship in Thailand. :good:

That's how I feel too. Plus, there are many beautiful ornaments one can find in Bangkok at far better (cheaper) prices.

The full length curtain is a very good idea; it makes the ceiling looks higher and the house more grand.

Somehow, with the metal weight, it provides 'body' to the curtains. They kinda fall elegantly even when the fabric is not high-end. :sport-smiley-004:

Hi Reiki,

Do you do heavy cooking?

With the location of your hood & hob in this manner, how effective is the hood when you cook?

I am wondering will cooking fumes be "blown" in by the wind coming in from the window?
