It's not just about cost you pay to the contractor. There is also the cost of downtime, and the risk of damaging other fittings during dismantling of the old wardrobe and installation of the new wardrobe.

Why don't you ask a contractor? I don't see why hacking is a problem, HDB flats are being hacked every day, everywhere in Singapore. Those rubber tiles are so nostalgic.

That's interesting. What is the restriction on the height of the false ceiling? More to the point, what is the rationale?

Project File

The dynamic duo.. Alan & Kelly. I didn't quite like the way Alan treated Kelly. But he seems to know the trade very well. -
Solid wood ok. Chipboard stuff sucks.

Your price is very good already. Grab it while you can.

Use tiles or stainless steel whenever possible. Easier to wipe grease off.

This is a sleigh bed. As the name suggests, it is based on a sleigh. Thus it is a very classic western style of furniture. A true sleigh bed would be made of maple, ash or mahogany, which are woods found in North America. Definitely hard to find in Singapore, as there is no tradition of sleighing here. I don't know if Malays will go for it, but it is certainly more of an expat style. I will be importing one in the next few months, it will be custom made from mahogany. A wrought iron one would be hard to find in Singapore, as there's little market, unless it is custom-made.

New Place
waileong replied to dasreich's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
I'm sorry to say, there's nothing much that can be done. Your place is already fairly rectangular, so usage has been max-ed out. Without a storeroom, best you can do is build cabinets high up or use a corner of the kitchen for storage. -
Good prices.

Help Needed For Wall Tiles!
waileong replied to WoodandSand's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Those are used to seal the edge of a tiled surface before it turms 90 degrees. Choose white, it's the easiest. -
Huge Wall Photo
waileong replied to maxism8's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
The DPI of the printer has nothing to do with how large a photo can be blown up. You cannot make a large good photo if the original image does not have enough pixels. 1.25 MP is tiny, even handphones have more than 1.25 MP these days. It's good only for 4R prints. -
You don't give enough details (eg downlights-- how many watts; track light-- how long is the track-- you can get 3ft, 4 ft, 5 ft, etc.), but it's probably not enough. The problem with lights is that it's all about individual taste. A hanging light can be as cheap as $40 or as expensive as $1000-- depends on whether you want ah beng type or italian/spanish designer type.

Huge Wall Photo
waileong replied to maxism8's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Depends on how close you want to view... For advertising billboards, the pixels can be as big as a tennis ball and it would still be ok. For your home however, the viewing distance is probably not that far. Let me give you a tip: it's probably a lot more than 16 MP. In other words, no 35 mm camera today can give you wall size enlargements that you'll be happy with. -
Do Hdb Allow People To Downgrade?
waileong replied to Prettibride's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
Why not? HDB flat is just like any other asset, it can be passed down through inheritance via will. Of course, you'll have to take over the loan, if there is any outstanding. But if your parents live to a ripe old age, it's likely the flat will be completely paid up. -
Looking For Teak Furniture
waileong replied to T.Mandy's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Wihardja. Very cheap, but quality not so good. Teak furniture is available everywhere, and prices range from quite cheap to very expensive. Apart from branding and design, there are reasons for the price difference. Not all teak are created equal, there are different grades. In particular, recycled teak or old teak is the best, while young teak (which is what Wihardja and Scanteak use) is not so good. Google to find out more. -
Flat Wall, How To Achieve It?
waileong replied to tingshen's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Get a screen if you're serious about projection tv. Once you read more about what materials go into a screen and how they are designed to reflect light, you'll regret using a wall. -
Normally prices are for non-concealed wiring. Independent electricians do not normally quote concealed wiring as the hacking and replastering is done by the general contractor. Your ID probably giving you a package price including hacking and replastering.
