thanks for the tip to go to spotlight....will do that this fri night as i will be in that vincity then. meanwhile, i am almost quite certain the price of 80 cents/foot run for 15mm diameter wide for curtain rod is unbeatable! i need abt 50 feet for my entire house and it will cost me $39. If I get IKEA brackets, it would top up to $55 ? I called Jason (the 'famous curtain maker in this forum) and was quoted $550 for 50 feet of metal rod plus installation. Me cheapo, not willing to spend so much on curtain rod I made my curtains in Shanghai as I was there for 3 weeks last mth...cost me $450 for whole house curtains - eyelet - supposedly more expensive than double pleats due to amt of cloth to be used and the metal eyelets. 3 bedrooms, 1 study and 1 living / dinning.

I also just bought my LCD TV 40 inches SHARP AQOUS newest model at $949 (bargained from $999, comes with $50 NTUC voucher) and SHARP fridge $499 (318L) from MEGA too. Same price and even slightly cheaper than Goh Ah Bee and the likes but much better service ! Now waiting to buy my 32 inch LCD....they were selling $499 for Sep09 SHARP AQUOS model ...hoping to buy at $400 or at least $499 for the latest model Not sure if I should brave the PC show crowd. they promised to match the price from today til delivery if I can find it cheaper else where. -
Thanks Gladys I called up Teck Leong but they only sell 15.8mm and 19.05mm. Prices are $25 and $35 for every 6m run. They dont sell 18mm. IKEA can hold up to ma of 18mm. Do you know anyone who can custom make curtain bracket ? Thanks!

Hob & Hood - Which Brand Should I Buy?
strawberry8 replied to joper's topic in Electronics & Electricals
I need to buy a job this weekend and I am only limited to cut-out size of 65cm. Pls recommend me. Was looking at AEROGAZ glass hob with 4 burners at $290 from their website. Seems very cheap but noticed very few forummers use it. It is also not carried by many retailers... -

Ikea Curtains (holes Type) Vs Others Curtains (hook Type)

I also prefer the eyelet type. No need to wrestle with the metal hooks. definitely more modern looking than double pleats.... -
anyone?

Thanks for your reply. Oh, you mean it is not advisable to use these pipes as curtain rod? What will happen? Tarnish? what is the diameter of these pipes? How much roughly do they cost per m or per foot ?

Hi forummers Due to limited table top space, I can only take a hob with cut-out size not bigger than 65cm in width. This leaves me with limited choices. From fttw, I was introduced to AEROGAZ and the website sells at $290 for a GLASS hob with 4 burners (in a 2 by 2 layout) I will only use 1 burner at a time as I am not capable to multi-task while cooking But seems very few retailors carry this brand. Those that do also say AEROGAZ does not sell well....not sure if it is due to commission scheme not being attractive or what. But they also do not hear any complaints. What other brands and models would you recommend? BORSCH, Brandt etc are too expensive for me I saw EF hob. Was told it is a sister company of ELBA, an established italian brand. The ss hob with 3 burners (in a triangle layout) cost $360 in MEGA DISCOUNT STORE before discount. This hob has cast iron. But I am hoping to buy a glass hob with at least 3 burners for less than $400. Hope you all can help me.

Backsplash: Tiles, Stainless Steel, Glass Or...?
strawberry8 replied to moonlit's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
One correction. DAMA did not give me A4 size sample. only the small piece but in many colours. I just reached SG and heard my hubby wrongly then. Outdoor paint ? I did not ask for outdoor paint wor.... Do you know what paint the other forummers use (for those who did not tile kitchen wall) ? I copied my kitchen colour combination and layout from MACBART Hope he does not mind -
my electrician refused to use other brands except Clipsal. He said he rather earn less than to have me going back to him for fixing things later sigh...donno who is the customer he is a stubborn old man He said MK is the worst, followed by Legrand. *dont shoot me, i am merely repeating what he said* I also suspect he gets a good commission from using Clipsal? But Clipsal is the most expensive, from Choo Chiangs quote. Mine is all-in prices (supply & install): New single power point - $35 New double powerpoint - $55 New heater point - $90 New aircon, washing machine pt = $35 Lights - $8 each (but will get lightings.com to install as in case anything goes wrong with lights, lighting shop bears full responsibility) I think this is market rate loh. Let me know if this is not.

Backsplash: Tiles, Stainless Steel, Glass Or...?
strawberry8 replied to moonlit's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Have not installed yet. Still doing wetwork. Probably in another 2 weeks? I will probably choose silver as my floor is dark grey. There is a lower-run cabinets (10-11 feet on the left of kitchen; no top-hung cabinets) are glossy white, tall cabinet (2 feet on the rigth of kitchen) is glossy burgundy. solid top is white. Wanted blacksplash to be black but panel only come with matt black, not glossy black. My kitchen light is IKEA's hanging silver pendant light....so can match the panel. I am not tiling kitchen wall....cement screed and painted white. What do you think of my kitchen colour combination? -
It's stainless steel water pipe.

Hi from MaCe post, I learn to use stainless steel pipes as curtain rod. Went to a hardware shop and found they sell 15mm (80 cents / foot) and 22mm ($1.40 / foot) in diameter. The 15mm can rest of the IKEA VAGEN series curtain bracket but I find it a tad too narrow. This bracket can hold up to a max of 18mm. So I like to use the 22mm pipe. This does not fit into the above IKEA curtain bracket Went to ask curtain shop and they use 19mm SS rod and charge $12 / foot. Question - where can I find curtain brackets that can hold 22mm diameter pipe/rod ? Appreciate your reply.

doctordoors.com.sg i was quoted $350 for width 5 feet by height 6 feet and $180 if I want a 1m fixed panel. both are tampered glass.

Backsplash: Tiles, Stainless Steel, Glass Or...?
strawberry8 replied to moonlit's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
I was quoted $180 for 1-m glass or stainless steel backsplash which I find pretty stiff for my pocket. A fellow forummer introduced aluminium composite panel. Called up DAMA.com.sg and was quoted $40-$55 (depending on colour) for a 8-feel long and 4 feet high panel. I will be using this for my backsplash as I only need to buy 2 sheets for my 11-feet wall with plenty of left over for the service balcony or for other uses. They charge $10 for every cut you need to make on the panel (eg for power points, etc). Free delivery and they open half day on Sat. They don't do installation though so need to get your contractor to install it for you.. You can go to their office and take a A4-size sample. I took one and place it behind of current / old stove...so far so good. Wish me luck in my installation to my new place. -
anyone else?

Hi My electrician advised me to put Clipsal power points and lighting ON-OFF switch instead of Legrand stating his customers who put up Legrand have lots of problems. Appreciate forummers who use Legrand feedback here. The prices of Clipsal vs Legrand (form Choo Chiang) is almost 3 times the price !

My Conclusion About Curtain Makers - Just Go For The Cheapest!
strawberry8 replied to Newie-X's topic in Home Furnishings
MaCe once mentioned to use stainless steel rods for curtain rods which I think it's great - modern, no rust, good to pull, almost 999, no joint parts. Bought at Tembeling Road at $44 / metre. Then buy IKEA curtain brackets to hold the rods. -
Ya, I did the measurement myself....quite easy la as they come in ready-made sizes of 30 - 45 - 60cm, etc for width.....height is also ready made... just call and they come to install. then pay in cash or check (cant remember liao)

I am also in same situation. I signed OTP on 22 Dec. Just had my 1st appt in April Getting my key on 25 May....pushed my way to 8 days earlier else will only complete on 3 June contractually. It's 5 mths .... much longer than a typical txn Agent is also representing both parties and seller doing contra. My interests to get early completion also fell on deaf ears because the 3rd house refuse to do early completion I also had to pay comm.
