  1. if you only need it at the end of the year, no point paying for it now coz you are paying a premium for an old technology like pioneer plasma, the 7th gen ones selling cheap now coz the 8th gen coming out in three-four months time. so if you buy one that you using only end of year, might as well wait till then to buy. the price will definitely be cheaper than now there'll be a PC/IT show in aug, not sure about year end though
  2. paiseh didn't reply earlier too busy negotiating with the various contractors no lah, i list out the questions so that if i forget anything you all here can help me list them down. then i can ask the FSM all at one shot i really have no idea what is the market price my sis's colleague say his one $80 only very good some say $688 also very good i very worried will get someone who may miss out certain details then give wrong advise liao
  3. thanks for sharing. actually have 'kapo-ed' the pix above from your t-blog to show ah keong also after discussing with ah keong, he pointed out that to shift the socket means hacking the surrounding wall tiles and replacing them. however, even if we managed to find the same wall tiles, the colour may not match coz those in my kitchen had been exposed to the elements for six years liao but the hdb ones are brand new another thing to consider is that my mum is quite elderly so she said that she wants all the appliances plugged in, sitting on the counter. in our current home, she couldn't unplug the appliances so my dad has to do it for her that means out of the six sockets in the kitchen: 1. fridge 2. rice cooker 3. electrical kettle 4. microwave 5. mini-over 6. slow cooker all these appliances will be sitting near the socket so it's a big headache on how to arrange them. so most prob the socket near the stove will be used for rice and slow cooker, and the others above the table will be for the rest
  4. coz now can't move in 19 jun liao mah rectifications more prob will finish only end jun meaning my own renovation will only start in jul so more time to save money loh
  5. working is fine lah, but if you have a lot of entertain and go home only to sleep, it's better not to have pets loh. if only go out to work and occasionally return home late still not so bad bah
  6. hehehe, that's what bf is for mah true about the upgrading part now that i have more time to save money, maybe can think of what to add for the renovation.
  7. LinDa - dear dear, so many things happening hope everything is soughted out liao must get your ID to settle everything first then takeover loh the things still can come in mah, you've got the keys to the unit also right? if not fully rectified dun pay the last 10% to him Bluberi - they have sort of cleaned up the toilet bowl but the masking tape is still around. and the flushing is not really working well, the water does not cover up to the line. will only cover up to the line if i do a 'half-flush'. but how can expect me to remember to be gentle everything right? and it's a defect to me loh, so die die will make her rectify them. went down to my nest today to meet three different contractors first to arrive is the hdb tile contractor but i couldn't recognise him cos he cut his hair got my bf to deal with him. after that he called his worker and started shouting over the phone. a few minutes later the door contractor called me to ask me if it's okay for them to come by around 2pm. upon hearing that i was super pixxed already agreed to come by at 1pm and now can call me to say 2pm! passed the phone over to my bf (again) for him to deal with them. after that finally met the 'legendary' ah keong from ho bee he is really very nice and spent the next two hours explaining the different types of drawers, different ways of putting things and the technical difficulties of the kitchen. this is without me signing anything or payng any deposit at the end of the discussion, it was decided that instead of having the sink and stove in one straight line, the sink and stove will be opposite each other at different ends of the kitchen i.e. sink at the window and stove at the entrance side. can see the $$$ going and hear the cashier 'kaching kaching' while my money fly out of the window well, i have been prepared to spend the most money in the kitchen coz it's a very important room to me. thinking of getting hdb to change my bedroom doors as well coz now that it's been taken down, can see the top cmi, uneven and not painted at all. if run my hands along the edge sure kenna cut one. took photos too but camera with my bf so will upload later.
  8. yes i'll be at my nest from 12 to at least 1:30 wah so envious leh, can go to your nest and prepare for shifting in spoke to ms ng just now and she will get the key back from the tile contractor so that can do the rest of the defects now come to think of it, no way i can shift in on 19 jun coz still have the tv points, the door knobs, the WCs, the vanity top and most importantly - the tiles in the kitchen/tile
  9. hehehe, personally i'm a cat person coz i'm lazy for my cats, all i did was bring them to the litter pan after they eat once and they know how to return to it after that erm, i would advise against having cats but no grilles as for whining, most pets will whine if you leave them alone for a long period of time, even guinea pigs if you know there'd be no one at home most of the time, better dun get a pet
  10. actually i mean the chery qq pick up really cmi think the lane next to it three four cars go by liao it's still only 10m away from the stop line
  11. your baby in the avatar? so cute will you be installing grilles too?
  12. to me, must rectify all defects before i takeover the unit loh if i takeover liao they say i takeover means i accept die liao lah so i will only take back my keys when i feel everything do swee swee liao
  13. firstly, if you neuter your cat, the possibility of him/her calling at night is greatly reduced. i can't guarantee no sound at all coz they do meow for things e.g. demand to be let into the air-con room !! as for scratching, contrary to popular belief - cats CAN be trained. it's just that it depends a lot on the bond the cat and trainer shares. if you are very close to your cat, you can basically get him/her to do whatever you want e.g. roll-over, walk on hind legs etc. my cats dun scratch anything else except stacks of newspaper and carpets but both was prepared for them to scratch. wood furniture they dun touch unless explicit approval is given (maciam maciam leh, no lah what i mean is they won't scratch things unless when they do it infront of me i never say anything then they will continue) as with all animals, long-hair breed will shed more than short-hair due to two reasons long-hair molts seasonally and their hair is more noticeable but you can consider the sphynx one more thing to note, if you want a cat, it'd be good if you can cat-proof your home i.e. get grilles, ensure there is nothing your cat might be trapped in etc.
  14. it's not easy to find something that fits your needs esp in your case i think it's worth it loh typically they say renovation should cost around 15% to 20% of the price of the house
  15. actually you are not supposed to move fast in a low-oxygen place fit guys tend to move quicker cos habit liao those who move slowly have more time for the body to adjust to the low oxygen level. the faster you move, the more oxygen you need so the lesson here is - move as slowly as you can
  16. hi, can check with you your shaggy carpet is bought off the shelf or customised?
  17. wow! your carpet walls and floor look so plush !! must be really comfortable lying on it
  18. in the end we realised that the contractor just did general clean-up and disposal of debris so tomorrow calling my TO to ask her send the washing contractor down to do the acid wash sigh, the tiling work was not very well done coz the grouting is uneven got unfilled grouting somemore !!
  19. paiseh, i mixed up electric hob and induction hob i'm quite conservative so find that open fire is still the way to go for me - i like my food with 'wok-hei' and the electricity bill is really your mum stew things on it??? how much is your electricity bill??? but claypot not important lah, can always get a slow-cooker and i find that distribution of heat has got more to do with the type of wok rather than the type of cooker you have e.g. S/S distributes head better but clay retains heat longer
  20. jaren, for the cpf contri thing, think cpf board will charge the company 2.5% per annum penalty to pay for the interest lost by the employee and a late charge (maciam credit card) but companies who have cash-flow problems will opt to pay this. think you better advise your wife to start looking for another job bah, now delay cpf wait later delay pay also LinDa, find that either OM or your ID should be bearing the loss loh. although you dun want your ID to be stuck with something he dun want, i'm pretty sure that he can find a client who might need exactly this sofa. even if he can't, maybe his colleagues can? having an ID is to 'insure' against this kind of situation also mah - risk transfer that came with a premium actually my tiles are all badly stained the kitchen tiles got rings of rust stain all over and the toilet tiles are 'covered' in cement loh. dun know why under the toilet seat got patches of cement. initially thought just dirty so didn't pay much attention until read one of the forummers say must wash then can see stains. wash and scrub also cannot remove will be dropping by my unit later to look at what is the end result
  21. i'm sure someone from your group have been to tibet before why not ask them if there's reception there? if not wait bring satellite phone there then realise everyone talking on mobile phone
  22. think you should get a coat with lots of pocket and put your inhaler in a convenient pocket. can you imagine getting an attack and got to fumble for it whilst wrapped up in layers of clothing? i usually do that if i'm going somewhere where the need for the inhaler is higher so that won't 'kalang kabok' think most digital cam got those lithium battery, like hp battery like that loh if you really want to be contactable, go and buy those universal adapter then sure can charge liao
  23. thanks for the in-depths explanation really helps coz i can't seem to find much about such comparisons on the net. only thing that sites keep saying is that quartz no need to seal, as good as granite blah blah. but what is the difference actually no much information love the granite look and noticed that silestone offers quite a good array of patterns(?) actually my contractor is offering granite to me at a low price so quartz is almost 1.5x the price guess i'll have to go down to the showroom to look at the actual thing before i finalise on the material all i can say is for granite - blue pearl is really nice saw verde-butterfly but bf say the dark spots not nice emerald pearl is nice too, but blue is my bf's fav colour so...
  24. but even JiuZhaiGou also got to train up to go mah the YuLongXueShan (jade dragon snow mountain) is quite a challenge got to buy mini oxygen tank to bring up the altitude of tibet is even higher, must train if not cannot walk heard that there's air-pockets i.e. if you stand here might feel ok, but if you walk a few steps will feel difficult to breathe, walk back ok... for your camera, i'd recommend keeping it warm too coz batteries run down very fast in cold weather, maybe half-hr no more power liao and if you dun keep up charged, it might go kaput
  25. love the pool table! how i wish i had thought of it before committing to my dining table your doggie also very cute, maybe he should be standing at the door to welcome guest instead
