  1. Yah, I bought Sharp SJ43 420l gross refrigerator at $525, Panasonic 23l microwave at $130 and LG top load 6.5 kg at $272, inclusive of delivery. Found their prices to be lower than most, e.g. Courts or Mustafa, because there are no delivery charges. But the shop did call on the day of delivery to announce that the microwave I ordered - Sharp 398 34l - was out of stock, and I had to decide on the spot, based on their recommendation, an alternative - Panasonic 23l microwave. Hubby was not amused. Other good places: Mustafa, Goh Ah Bee, Woodlands Electrical (I think). We also just bought a LG front load 7 kg at $580, inclusive of delivery from Harvey Norman, Hougang, on Sunday. The purchase wasn't planned...we were there to check out the washer models, having surveyed some prices from neighbourhood shops. Harvey Norman's listed price was $599 (after including a $100 HN voucher) and excluding $30 delivery charge but since they were willing to match the price of a neighbourhood electrical shop, we bought it from them.
  2. Don't be sad...even famous artists like Leonardo Da Vinci paints over his works... beneath a beautiful painting sometimes there are layers of painting and effort...as long as the final one is to your satisfaction It's a learning experience, just don't recommend or engage this contractor in future... You still have a few more months to save up and perhaps bonus in July?? Tah bao sandwiches for lunch everyday! Save on wedding albums...they occupy space and frankly, after the wedding nobody looks at them.
  3. Heheh...really exciting when you see the little blob on the screen. Blob grows bigger... !!
  4. Sigh...$$$$ to painting, cleaning, moving companies...and efficient hubby. Tight deadline...'cos handover key on Fri. The tiler took the initiative. Very nice. So far when I wash the shower area, no water flow out...but I've not taken a full shower yet. Will let you know after I move in and the Singtel mio account installed (30 April). Me will go MIA for a few days after moving. Thanks! !!
  5. Think that a contractor/ ID/ homeowner cannot possibly forsee everything that is required before the reno. During the reno., if one party see something that has to be done that was not discussed or in the contract and cannot be absorbed 'cos too expensive, then it is only fair that the contractor/ID and homeowner agree on the additional work to be done and the price. This is known as a variation order. The additional work starts when both agree on the work scope and price. But, if your contractor promised good paint and gave poorer substitute, think you can insist they repaint or give discount. Sumobear had similar experience.
  6. Heheh...the umbrella light looks interesting. Thought it looks like a porcupine until I read your description. !!
  7. Poor Sumobear, don't be discouraged...you're very lucky your wife is not fussy...just keep a closer eye on things. Tiling floors is basic...shouldn't be a problem...after all the contractor tiled the kitchen tiles to your satisfaction, right?
  8. The previous owner painted his doors off-white...think they're quite nice. Your taste though.
  9. Cleaning and polishing today. Moving in on Thurs!
  10. Ooops! Happy belated birthday!
  11. Think the dining room is the jewel in the crown!
  12. Oh? There are plain ones but cheaper range? We picked ours from the curtains display. The sales person showed me a booklet with what looks like gunny sack weave. He says those are cheap...but we didn't like them. We saw a lot of really nice plain shiny ones in little booklets but he said these are all expensive. How much did you pay per metre for yours?
  13. Oh dear, you'll need electricity for the drills, etc. Hopefully the TC hurries up with this 'cos the whole block is affected, isn't it?
  14. Interesting. Noticed that the previous owner concealed the water pipes...nice. Now, HDB is supposed to be more strigent in enforcing the their regulations.
  15. Nice sofa and dining set. Thanks for the plastering prices...yah, I wouldn't have afforded it anyway...
  16. Oh? reno started? congrats!!
  17. Hey, sumobear, don't worry...don't be sad...your new place will look absolutely lovely again like a beautiful newborn pheonix rising from the ashes of destruction. Wonderful times ahead here with your partner and little ones... do look forward to better days ahead.
  18. Ordered my curtains from the same shop last night...dunno if they're cheap 'cos my curtains (without daylight ) costs $1152. Preferred plain ones but they said the plain ones were expensive. Which ones did you get?
  19. Seng Kwong installers touched up the paint and cleaned up the place and wardrobe after installing the wardrobes. Really appreciate their service. Really like the wardrobe interior too. Sorry, forgot to bring the camera. They also complimented the kitchen carpentry...I really pleased 'cos a compliment from an industry insider carries certain weight .
  20. Am using Island Link Express ('cos they gave me the cheapest quote), but after reading a forumer's entry on another moving company (apparantly they broke some kitchen stuff already wrapped in newspaper), we decided to move all fragile items, e.g. glassware, crockery, ourselves. Moving on Thursday, will let you know how they perform at my blog.
  21. On no, you got really nice stuff...some of the blogs I've seen had funny coloured W.Cs and basins and really queer colours for toilet tiles.
