  1. Hi all! We are nearing the end of our house renovation and we have finally decided to share our experience so far Our new house is a 5-room BTO in Waterway Brooks, and here's our floor plan for a start: Both of us prefer a simple and clean house, along the line of minimalistic and nordic feel kinda. We surfed extensively on (it's really quite a useful app!), renotalk (of cuz ;p) and various interior design company websites initially to gather our ideas on how we want our house to be. Being super fickle-minded, it took us quite awhile to come to a decision on the interior design we are both comfortable with. Here's our mood board: Living Room Kitchen Random ideas That's all for now!

  3. Hello all, We have managed to do a simple cozy looking, somewhat between nordic+minimalist renovation, nearing 22k. We met with a few contractors and 1 ID, and decided to go ahead with the contractor that a good friend of mine had enagaged. The whole renovations took about 3 months, as some items were out of stock and had to wait for it to be manufactured and shipped in. Here are the work items covered by my contractor: Living Room/ dining area 1. Vinyl flooring ****/dining areas and all bedrooms 2. L-box with cove light holder, including installation of down-lights and cove lights 3. Installation of ceiling fan with led light 4. Installation of pendant lights for dining area 5. Additional switches and relocation of electrical points 6. Painting for the whole house Kitchen 1. Top and bottom cabinets, total of 31ft 2. Kompacplus cabinet top and backsplash 3. Kitchen cabinet kerbs 4. Installation of kitchen accessories, including kitchen sink+tap, hood+hob+oven and an open shelf 5. Additional switch and relocation of electrical points Bathroom 1. Shower kerb for master bathroom 2. Installation of Ikea bathroom accessories for common and master bathrooms 3. Installation of Ikea sink and vanity drawer at master bathroom 4. Installation of down lights and cove lights MBR 1. Full height 6ft casement wardrobe at MBR 2. Installation of wall fan Bedrooms 2 and 3 1. Installation of wall fan 2. Additional switch for wall fan Items that I liased with direct vendors/suppliers 1. Whole house window grills and service yard window 2. Master bathroom glass shower screen 3. Aircon installation 4. Bomb shelter store rack 5. Slide arm for main door Will share more photos and details later on. Cheers!
  4. Hello all! I have been a silent reader and follower of this forum since my fiance and I received our keys in May 2015 - we have been kinda chill about this so the process only started proper last month haha. Before I begin, I would really like to give my biggest heartfelt thank you to all the bloggers here who have shared their experiences because it has helped me so much, if not entirely in my own process. We are halfway through the renovation process now and I thought I would start writing about our renovation journey and hopefully, our experience would help all of you in your own exciting experience. The initials of our names form WHAT - hence the title ahha. We are both easties at heart so imagine our joy when we successfully applied for a sales of balance BTO in the Bedok area. It is about 10 mins walk to Bedok MRT, and we ain't got a good view (unless you count having a free show of watching your neighbours go about their business as one) but I gladly sacrificed that so that we could still be in an environment we grew up in. So here is our very humble home layout - a 4 room unit. I guess you could call our theme scandustrial (are you bored of this already?) but I love the woody warm feel, mixed with a little bit of industrial (black framed glass and wirings), and marble-tops - I will just let the photos do the talking for the inspirations. I guess you can say I am into a lot of white, grey and brown shades heh.

  7. Our biggest dream have come true. We finally have our own little abode after months of searching for a place that fits us and sourcing for contractors. Not forgetting the many trips to HDB since we are first time buyers who are not engaging an agent. So here we are, making our dreams come true. And this will be our little diary to store our memories. Home is where the heart is.
  8. Hi Masters! this is my first post on reno talk, and i would like to seek some advice from experience folks here. I just purchased a 4-room DBSS unit (resale, 94sqm), and i'm planning to do a full overhaul of the entire house. I have a 30-40k renovation budget to turn my hdb into a nordic scandinavian vibe home. I would like to make the following changes Full hacking a demolition - living room + kitchen + 3 bedrooms + 2 toilets. I think i need to take down nearly everything - tiles, carpentry work, false ceiling, etc. Full painting in every room Minor electrical work touch up; addeding a few power points. Living room - New floor tiles (Vinyl or homogeneous tile), shoe cabinet, TV wall mounting, new curtains, and possibly a featured wall, installation of hanging fan Bedroom (master) - New floor tiles (vinyl or wood-like tiles), built-in wardrobe Bedroom x2 - New floor tiles (vinyl or wood like), 1 study table in 1 of the room, 1 built in ward robe in 1 of the room. Toilets - New floor (granite or other matt/rought materials) and wall tiles (Granite, ceramic or homogeneous tiles), sink/toilet bowl/vanity counter purchase + installation, glass wall Kitchen - New floor tiles and wall tiles, cabinet (white modern looking), kitchen top (granite or marble), new sink and cooking hobs + installation. I don't think my budget allows me to engage an ID, hence i'm looking for a contractor to help me with my renovation work. Any good intro?
  9. After 2 years+ of waiting, fiancé and I finally received our keys to our 4 room BTO flat on 7th June 2013 We weren't in a hurry to move in so we decided to take our time with the renovations; also because our wedding is in 1 December 2013 and we're afraid that finances might be a bit tight. But last week, we met with one interior designer (Spacious Planners @ IMM) and one contractor (the much recommended Mr K from renotalk), and fiancé and I started getting excited with the renovations and all. In the end, we might just start our renovations earlier and hopefully, have the house ready by November 2013 *rubs hands with glee* Here's the floor-plan of my little home which I call TCC - The Chews Corner
