1 pointhttp://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=114535898753317 EDMW loves Singapore "Inconsiderate driver get curse by the public", according to Miss June Tan. Like our page: EDMW loves Singapore to follow more hot topics such as this! "Haha LTA arrived after video was taken. This driver kanna cursed by lots of people lo. 团结就是力量 hahaha so many people help to cary the car to the side." - June Tan. (We at EDMW don't exactly know what happened, it could be that the car broke down, or the driver inconsiderately parked it along the road, blocking the traffic. But it certainly is a rare sight to see the public cooperating this way to lift up and shift the car out of the way to free up the traffic. We'll update once more information is available) ============== Post at STOMP too http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/st...g_traffic.html This article was contributed by the STOMP Team. A video circulating on facebook recently shows a group of passers-by helping to move a parked car, which was blocking traffic, out of the way to allow other vehicles to drive through. The driver had apparently parked the car on a speed bump on a two lane road. A bus was unable to drive past as the parked car was blocking it. Passers-by who spotted this gathered around the car. They then coordinated to push the car out of the way. The video was posted by June, who mentioned in the comments section that the LTA officer arrived on the scene shortly after and that the driver was scolded by the public upon returning to the vehicle.

1 pointThis post will be mostly dedicated to the plumbing works that was carried out on the flat on Saturday 28/6/14. I will start off this post with the aluminum sliding door that was torn down (refer to post #53 and #63) and send back to the factory to apply the laminate and send back to my flat for installation. Regretted, never utilize the option of two different laminates for the wardrobe and sliding door to create contrast. 2) Hobz cooker hood and hob. -purchase at city gas somerset, i think for less than $600 during the mother's day promotion iirc. Installation was done by City Gas at a cost of $120. 3) Blanco Sink Combination from Hoe Kee -purchase at Hoe Kee Genting lane, i think for around $500 iirc. - Installation by reno plumbing team 4)Champs 30L Storage tank heater Bought at some gain city expo for $219. - Installation by reno plumbing team - first time using a storage tank and this heater is suppose to supply hot water to mbr as well. 5)Aluminum Clothes rack Bought from Hoe Kee as well, at about $30. Installation by reno plumbing team. There is side hanger to hold clothes rack. 6)Alumimium Rack Bought from Hoe Kee as well, cannot remember the price. Installation by reno plumbing team. To hold our shampoo and miscellaneous stuff, do take note, the installation of this will damage the mosaic tiles on the wall.

1 pointHi. My flat is a 3.5 room HDB and I'm staying in the .5 room. I'm planning to purchase a ceiling fan for this room. Dimension of room is approximately 2.3m length, breadth and height. I've narrowed down my choices to Fanco FFM4000 and Amasco Fresh 2 as these 2 models are suitable for low ceilings and both have option for light. The diameter of 48" also fits well into the room. I'm leaning more towards Fanco FFM4000 mainly due to the competitive price. Could anyone with experience with this fan share your thoughts? Currently I would like to know: - Is the wind strong even at low setting? - Is the fan noisy and will it wobble? I read that at medium to high settings, ceiling fans might make noise and wobble. - Is the remote control long-lasting? - How long before the fan stop working on some speeds? I read that this is mainly due to faulty capacitors and we would have to again spend money to have the electrician come replace it. I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

1 pointAs we visited our unit last week, we noticed that although the carpentry works are completed but the linings are not correct and the aluminum sliding door wardrobe has a missing laminate in the middle. So we informed the ID again, thus he instruct the carpenter to remove the door and do the laminate again. 1) Shoe Cabinet A picture of the stripped shoe cabinet without its doors. 2)Daybed without the doors 3)Aluminium sliding door wardrobe, sliding door removed from redesign. one thing i like about this alumimium wardrobe is the sliding mirror hidden in it and the best part is that it come with no extra costs to us. According to the id, the 'removed' door will be send back to the factory to do the linings and laminates again. Although the doors has been delivered to us today, The carpenter told us that he will do the installation by 5/7/14(Sat). ID also arranged for the glass door guys to installed a stopper to prevent the door handle to directly know and damage our wall around last Wed(25/6/14) and the plumbing works for the flats is also completed on 25/6/14. Anyway during the renovation, we discovered a defect with the id!! We notice that the cement screed outside our home is 'uneven'. Whenever we open the the gate at certain angles, our door will brush against the cement screed outside and causes scratch marks on the cement. Pictures of the damage/scratch cement screed by the inner portion of the iron gate. Pictures of the damage/scratch cement screed by the external portion of the iron gate, despite having this proof the BSC also came up to our flat and try to open/close our gate many times as well, causing the condition to aggravate . The results of this deep scratch marks is caused by the frequent opening/closing of the iron gates. All new BTO owners, do take note. Please do try and open your iron gate in various angles/combinations and make sure that your gate will not scratch the floor and ensure that it is smooth to prevent damage to the cement screed and the iron gate. If there is a need to rectify, get the building services guys (BSC) to even the surface screed. That's all for sharing folks.

1 pointforgot to post the hob.. it is fujioh. Bedroom 2 wardrobe MBR wardrobe - contrast and rustic, just the way we like it. again we use the black laminate from TV console to have a consistent element so this is the back of my MBR wardrobe which becomes a laminated feature in Bedroom 2 my vanity table top. it has compartments to put my jewellery/makeup and a clear glass top (not fixed yet in this pic) Aircon in MBR. we use mitsubishi electric heavy industries instead of Star mex.

1 pointEntrance to kitchen (seen from inside kitchen)... the frames are empty now, as the glass panels will be installed later. Subway tiles and black hood up. Took us a while to find a black hood but it was worth the time and money. Breakfast counter/kitchen island top at the side Quartz and the kitchen cabinets Dining table light

1 pointSome updates on furnishing. furniture hunting is very fun!! Some of the sofas that we shortlisted while looking around.. we wanted something more mid-century with wooden or thin legs. love the turquoise one but it was sold out at Like That One. The hair pin leg sofa is from Second Charm but a customised piece so we were not able to have a 'test sit'.. finally we chose our sofa from Comfort Furniture as we like the ergonomics and the shape. We also customisied the fabric color. should be here by end july. bought these laundry baskets from taobao and selected Limed-wood for our blinds in living room - that's the top one. good thing it is waterproof so would be easier to clean. More on carpentry.... our common toilet vanity cabinet. the black handles are the same laminate material as TV console. we like kompac but it seems more expensive so our ID proposed these woody laminates for a similar effect. Our MBR toilet vanity cabinet and mirror and huge sink.

1 pointCement screed wall across living room. we are lucky we didnt have a recess in the living room wall selected master bedroom toilet tiles Working on the master bedroom toilet overlay the common toilet overlay. we chose this over the beige tile that ID proposed in the 3D.. loving it. it looks and feels like wood planks. abit whitish here because they applied something over close up of the wall tile (the tile below)

1 pointCompleted works on 14/6/14. Continuation of the kitchen post 6)Kitchen cabinet. -Opposite side of the kitchen cabinet was pondering if i should have ask the id to plan for a built-in oven/toaster (although we dun really cook). I was wondering how can i check/verify that the workmanship of the kitchen cabinet carpentry is good ? Anyone have any ideas on it? Because on the surface as i looked on , everything seemed ok, soft-close also work, door closed softly except that i have yet to try to slammed the kitchen cabinet with great force? 2) A Full view of the kitchen works. - The kitchen is abit dimmed in this picture, i am at the spot where there is no light, follow on to the next image to see the 'lighted' kitchen. 3)Kitchen cabinet pictures the kitchen does look brighter and cheers one up. - due to some the angle i am standing, i am not able to present the full glory of the cabinets such as the frosted glass cabinets. Look like the id and his carpenter team has manage to cleared carpentry work challenge as well ! Did not spot any significant defects when i visited. I was wondering how did other renotalkers identify such defects, is it just visible defects or do they have a methodology to do so ? Can someone share it with me so that i can use this methodology to access the carpentry works done since everything seemed pretty good and decent to me on the surface ? Lastly, if you have noticed the wordings, i have changed the budget's reno text to reasonable's reno. (Will explain deeper in the next post again). That's all for today. Apologies if i did not respond to your pm/queries ASAP.

1 pointPosting some completed backdated renovation updates. (Date on 14/6/14 - Sat) 1)My 6 ft wardrobe - 90% completed, wardrobe is completed but the carpenter man forgot about the laminates design in the middle of my aluminium door. -Will post a special 'feature' in the wardrobe - Chose the wrong laminates after trying to be too different from the rest of the 'woody grain' wardrobe. - Argh...i also did not choose 2 seperate laminates which the id offered to create a unique contrast. 2)MBR Toilet suspended storage cabinet 2) Internal of the suspended storage cabinet -Yes, the mirror is 1-sided. -special highlight is the board can be easily detachable from the cabinet to create a 'taller' space 3)Living room daybed - I would say this is about 70% completed [20%]- The ID or either the carpenter man forgot about laminates lining on the dayend, so the id say they will re-do the laminates linings. (To create a contrast like the 3-d drawings). [10%]- Pending the delivery of the custom-cushion from the carpenter to make this feature 100%. The cushion will be able to slot into the sliding gap of the daybed when not in-use 4) My costly Partitioned wall and shoe cabinet. ( will post about the shoe cabinet) 90% completed, everything is functional - but somehow either the id or either the carpenter man forgot about the cabinet lining. - So the id say they will do the lining of the cabinets for us to create the 3d contrast which he proposed. Conclusion: If i have a choice again on this part of the reno, i would have propose a L-shaped custom made shoe cabinet or a shoe cabinet plus a australian system sliding door trap to act as a partition. Now... let move on to the most expensive, interesting and striking component of my reno. A picture speaks a thousands words. 6)Kitchen cabinet post (Total of 36ft) -100% Carpentry works completed with peary white surface top.(did not chose a bombastic colored surface top this time round and stick to the safe peary white top) -outstanding portion of plumbing works which will be settled upon the meetup with plumbing team. - due to a limitation of 6 images per post, i will continue the next half of the kitchen in the next post.

1 pointhttp://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/two-lose-hdb-flats-renting-them-tourists Consider this a warning for those thinking about making a quick buck from renting their homes to short-term visitors. Two home owners have lost their flats after the Housing Board found they had let out their units to tourists. Home-rental websites like Airbnb and Roomorama have become more popular here. The founder of Roomorama, Ms Teo Jia En, told The Straits Times last month that the website had some 500 listings for Singapore properties, which is an increase of 30 per cent from last year. A search on travelmob turned up more than 630 local listings, and another portal, Airbnb, has more than 1,000. But these flout HDB and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) regulations, which state that when a home (HDB or private) is leased out, it must be for at least six months. Though there have been complaints in the past, and the housing authorities have investigated thousands of cases, this is the first time that HDB has revealed it has taken the step of booting out home owners for the infraction. While the agency would not say when it took back the executive flat in the east, and the four-room flat in the west, it did say that its investigations proved the owners had leased out the flats to multiple tourists for between $25 and $75 per night. It also issued a warning to one more flat owner in the central part of Singapore. According to its spokesman, an errant home owner can also face a financial penalty. The HDB investigated 184 cases of short-term leasing in public flats last year. It investigated 106 cases the year before. A spokesman for the URA, which has oversight over private dwellings, said that in the first four months of this year, it investigated 350 cases of "unauthorised use" of private properties. Last year, it investigated 2,100 such cases, which included instances where home owners turned their apartments into dorms for foreign workers. Private homeowners who flout the six-month minimum rule face a maximum fine of $200,000 and a jail term of up to 12 months. Said the URA spokesman: "Some home owners are turning their homes into boarding houses and leasing rooms out for a couple of days to generate quick income from spaces they can spare." But most other home owners do not want to live among transient strangers, the spokesman added. An HDB spokesman said other residents felt the frequent change of occupants would pose security concerns. This article by The New Paper was published in MyPaper, a free, bilingual newspaper published by Singapore Press Holdings.

1 pointHi JohnB, my kitchen top is white quartz ($115/ft). Ikea has several price range for their solid top. The most expensive is $150/ft. Mine is somewhere in the middle. There are cheaper ones. I also paid an additional $15/ft for backsplash and anti-drip. I also opted for sinks that are integrated with the solid top. I find that this is much cleaner. Ikea's contractors for the cabinet installation (Robert) and solid top (Gigi) are very very experienced. So they know what they are doing. Price-wise, an ikea kitchen will cost about the same as one done by the contractor. Generally, Pros of an Ikea kitchen: the soft closing is very good.as the cabinets are factory-made, they come in uniform sizes and the look is very neat.installation is fast - according to the contractor (Robert), it only takes 3 days for a typical sized kitchen. Mine took 6 days.can fit all ikea's accessoriesit is well-designed and functional. Water do not splash on me when I washed things. I used to have this problem in my previous contractor-designed kitchen. Cons of an ikea kitchen alot of work/hassle in purchasing - you need to tell the ikea staff every module that you want to buy. There are many modules. The ikea staff took 3 hours to key in my orders into the system.if you buy wrongly, you may have to exchange it yourself. I got some sizes wrong. Robert helped me with the exchange, so I didn't have to do it myself. The cabinets are made of chipboard. Not solid wood.Photos below were taken at Ikea Tampines: image by Harriette_Tan, on Flickr image by Harriette_Tan, on Flickr image by Harriette_Tan, on Flickr image by Harriette_Tan, on Flickr
