Newly renovated coffeeshop? Issit the one at 303? I like the prata sold at the shop next door. 347 has the peppery BKT that i like alot. My wife thinks the wet market at 505 is cheaper.

Incidentally mine's one of the blocks u viewed.... 285-288.

mine's 25k COV, which i thought was high in late 2009. till the news came out that pple were paying much higher COVs for areas less ideal, and flats much older.

as a general rule of thumb, u can do whatever u want in singapore... anything done wrongly and u got caught out, just make sure u can get comfy with a wedgie.

Hey there, i haven't summed up the total bill but the i think it's in the 85-95k ballpark including all furniture and appliances. I basically tore down pretty much of everything (my contractor said i was mad considering i paid the cov based on what was to be inherited). oh well.... i didnt take much pictures at all, if any they are still sitting on my iphone.

Me used to stay at JW St42 area as well. No piped gas, so u gotta plan for tank storage. As for price, that area is slightly on the low side. Having stayed there for >20 years (1st owners), we seen the transformation. 407 faces the highway and the soon-to-be built EC if the land next to it has already been sold (The land for sale sign was removed recently). Bear in mind that that era of HDB blocks (all over singapore as well) were built during the infamous Teh Cheng Wan's reign, so the flat construction (materials, techniques, etc) was thought to be less than ideal, according to market hear-say. Nonethesless, i grew up there, and my mom still lives there, it's an area that i will always belong. -

another option of storage area will be the extreme wall away from main door at the dining room... if u put up some folding doors, u can basically create a wall high storage. Don't have to be too deep, perhaps about 400mm. -
If it's from KDK singapore and under warranty, you can just call their serviceman down to rectify the wobbling issue. Mine was rectified FOC.

Congrats! Wifey and I were looking at your area sometime in 1st quarter 2010, asking price were astronomical already then. Some agents were even setting up mobile offices there to sell the EMs. Once they see u clutching the classifieds, they would start their hard sell. Same reasons as you stated; near parents, good schools, amenities..... We ended up getting an EM in Toh Guan area. I was from Rulang, and my former teacher told me that my kids will definitely get a good chance to enroll there in future. Good luck, and enjoy your upcoming renovation!

Mine was for an oversized opening, being an enclosure for my very small storeroom. I was quoted differently by PD and SS, 629 being the former and 499 being the latter. So naturally i went with SS. One guy from PD(!) came down to take measurement and when i told him that i wanted the door to swing outwards, he told me that that would cost more. I challenged him by asking what difference does it make for the door to swing in or swing out, I mean if it is used as a toilet door, it will just be a matter of whether I am in the toilet or outside. He grumbled a little and kept insisting they are different but unable to tell me the intrinsic differences. Only keep persuading me to let it open inwards, but I was adamant as it would eat into my storage space. Went down to their shop at balestier and was told by the sale person that due to my oversized door and my requirement that it has to swing outwards, the price will be 549 instead. Not wanting to get pissed on a saturday, i caved in. He also required that i make full payment on the spot. Fine. On day of installation, they brought the door down. That was when i realized that the door came installed with the frame already, and that was how they would fix it to the opening. I would have thought that the frame and door will be separate entities till they are affixed together. Turned out the measurement is wrong and is not to my requirement of which is to slide the door from right to left, and swing OUTWARDS on the left. So they heaved the door back. I called up the salesperson and narrated the whole story of how i told two person of my requirements and how they both managed to fark it up. Now he said that was what i had requested. Bullocks. In short i told him i am not someone to be trifled with, and gave him a dateline for the replacement. Replacement day came and it was alright, except for the silicon on the edges between the door frame and the wall not being done to my expectations. I wasnt around to supervise the job, so on that part, i guess i have myself but to blame.

They are the same company under different name. How else will u explain that i engaged swingslide for installations, and pple from PD rang me up to confirm the installation time??? In fact there is also a 3rd company name, but they are all under the same pple.

try autosol. lightly.

Those are excellent observations. However i beg to differ on having a FS master follow u around while house searching, one being the cost, another being one should be able to feel the synergy of the house while viewing.... good or bad, our inner feeling should be quite accurate. Other than that, the above are all sound advices; especially being near to parents.

This must be a really special thread to have attracted so many newbies to post something to chip in their opinion. Let the buyers beware.

Hi there... thanks for chipping in. Can u elaborate on why 708 will champ the 508, given my very basic listening needs.... movie or music. Any idea of the 708 cost? i read on the net that it is still relatively new... aka new release. Which yamaha receiver will u reccommend based on my simple need? Thanks very much!

hi guys, what do you guys think of this setup? Definitive Tech Pro Cinema 800 paired with Onkyo TX-SR508? I had initially considered the infamous bose system, but decided to join the dark side. Will TX-SR608 be a better purchase, and allow me for possible upgrading in future? aka, a better investment in the long term? I will be using it mainly for movies and some music.... not an audiophile, but just want a hts to reward myself. thanks in advance.... rick
