  1. I seriously hope that the issues you mentioned are not the ONLY reasons why Jean wan to separate from her HB...?? This is because almost all the issues you quoted also happened to me! And the fact is that I still love my wife very much...(my wife don't come to renotalk so there is no reason for me to lie). I was in shipping sales previously and there are alot of entertainment involved, which means alot of drinking and late nights. And when you drink with clients, you cannot just order cheap beers or cocktails, but its always bottles of liquors to 'show face'. I admit sometimes because of frequent entertainment, I start to like drinking so even if no clients I will also go out, but totally no hanky-panky. Also because of my sales vocation, I always try to get close to my clients or their subordinates, so that I can get their support and/or info on competitors. I go the extra mile to help in my clients' shipment and alot of times they are very appreciative of me, sometimes also paiseh that I stay back very late to make sure their shipment are in order. So the message "Dun overwork, I wil heartpain" really do not mean anything; I get them a few times also! Trust me, I have worse messages from female clients, but they are just trying to be funny and nothing serious at all. And yes, I also lock my handphone too, first because I tend to lose them when I get drunk, secondly I also got moonlight in other jobs plus sometimes I leave my handphone on my office desk, so I do not want colleagues or my boss to see it. And s**? Wah lau, everytime drunk already how to make?? Yes its not healthy at all (that's why I am not in shipping liao, hehe), but at the end of the day, its work and all I am trying to do is bring bread home. I would be very sad if one day, out of the blue, my wife slap me with a separation letter just like that. Well only the couple themselves know best if suit each other and I am not trying to side the hubby because I only heard so much info from you; but bottomline is that I hope Jean can go talk to her hubby, maybe go for counselling and see if they really can't keep the marriage, instead of just running to the lawyer to get a separation letter like that without trying.
  2. This is great!! Haha, my turn to take out tomorrow. About the 'legal' part, I doubt HDB would bother lah; its not as though we take out already will affect the building structure or something. But I will still keep the grilles for next time if want to put back... Good work!!
  3. If I am not wrong its just another painter using Nippon Paint. I dun think the big company will come out themselves to do painting jobs; they don't need to earn that kind of money. So if you are hoping that its 'professionals' from Nippon Paint itself, then better think twice. Also, I rather you give the job to your contractor; anything goes wrong, you just handle one person. Imagine later got defects, your contractor blame the painter and vice versa, u also headache.
  4. Dun worry lah, nobody will !! you; even if just do once will also have a very big positive impact on the needy already. I always believe in personal wellbeing first - if volunteer work is really bogging you down and affecting your life, where got the mood to be a good volunteer? Its only when you are having a great life personally that you will be a great volunteer too.
  5. Haha, finally found your t-blog! Aiya, cannot recognise the title mah... Anyway the curtains are really great, very modern and lush, matching for your overall design. I duno why but my flat is becoming more 'classic' and grand instead of modern...
  6. I think posting your layout here would help - not all our kitchens are similiar leh. The washer + dryer is not going to be very high; me is Bosch one and its only about 1.7m in total, sure can reach one lah. As for the citygas, yes it can be shifted to the right/left, but cannot shift all the way to the ceiling because need clearance for the heat/flame.
  7. To be worried about break-in via windows is an overkill lah! Most of our flats' windows can only be reached by spiderman, and spiderman is a hero, so won't break-in your flat one, don't worry!! BTW can take a pic of your windows with removed grilles? How did you take it out, just unscrew?? I was worried that the whole window will come out, haha silly me...if really can take out I also want to remove...
  8. Usually IDs with pushy sales people and tactics like "exhibition prices" and "$500 to secure cheap packages" will not refund you the deposit, simply because a big chunk of this $500 is the sales guy's commission. Remember if you reduce their scope of work, tell them that its because you got tight budget. Try not to let them know that you are engaging another ID or contractor - some may take it very badly when they know you are not giving all the jobs to them. Best if you can get the next ID or contractor to come in after they finished their job. I also thought of another issue that you might have: Reno permits. Can apply for two permits?? Anyone know about this can advise, I am not very sure...
  9. Yah lor, unless the agent tried to market the place like Famous Amos cookies, "FREE SMELLS"... !!
  10. The only issue is with the seller. You see, they will be ones who apply for the permit since they are still the owners, somemore its major reno with hacking and such. If got penalty, noise pollution, etc, they will get it. Some buyers will sign a personal agreement with the seller to say that buyer will bear all liabilities, but when come to the crunch, HDB don't care and the seller has to bear the charges first and then ask you to pay. Should you refused to pay, they will have to go all the way to small claims (if under $10k) or get a lawyer to sue you (if more than $10k). Ermm...of course if you know yourself that you will be really responsible, and the seller is abit blur blur like that, then don't tell them all these and ask them to apply permit for you lor...kekeke...
  11. Did you clarify what does his 'quote' encompass? Some ID put the layout drawings as part of the quote, maybe they do a really impressive layout lor, so take longer...

    Duro Gate Lock

Erhhh sis, did you install the lock wrongly?? How come the locking bar is facing outside one?? Yeap, for my gate, the lock could only fit at the top near the padlock holder. Not sure about others, but for mine the misfit was due to the misalignment of the gate's bars, where the fixed bar was too 'in' and the moving gate's bar is too 'out', so when I push in the locking bar, it kinda scrap at the paintwork. Now even at top also like that, if put in the middle totally cannot push the locking bar in... On hindsight, this could be caused by the new welded bolts I changed on the gate, if those who remember...
  13. It obviously cannot be cheaper to use solid fuels or bottled gas to cook, so don't think these jokers are trying to save money. Suspect its more selfish; maybe they do not have a proper hob and hood, so cook inside will be smelly, thus cook along the corridor lor. Other people smelly not my problem mah! *Sigh* That's a long shot lehh! If they are guys I will believe lah, cuz I know guys will try ALL METHODS to get MC or downgrade. Last time used to have a mate who smashed his small finger so as to get downgraded to PES C...
  14. I also got some relatives tried to insist that I must install grilles, I simply told them smilingly, "Don't worry, I will buy a few of these, you can use them when you bring your kids into my house". They usually shut up immediately. Hello, its YOUR child, so if there is any inconvenience, it should be at YOUR expense, isn't it? Why inconvenient ME for the safety of YOUR child?? But at least I am lucky that my wife is on my side - do try to speak nicely to your husband lor, JS21...
  15. Is this spray gun the one that can also wash...erm, hehe, you know lah, for our friends who don't use toilet papers one... I also would like to install one (no, not for that lah! I got use toilet paper one ok!), cuz its very useful for cleaning and sometimes can spray at the toilet bowl also, after you did a big one there. BTW, does anyone knows when are they going to take down the stickers and protective wooden panels in the lifts?? Everyday come home like staying in construction site like that. Can't wait to see the lifts like the one at our MSCP, which does not have the protective wooden panels.
  16. Wow, so glad that you actually came in to help! I am sure the community would appreciate your efforts... In order to keep your 'passion' lasting, you will have to find joy in doing it lor; ie you must find the satisfaction in making the old folks smile, see that their beds and surroundings are nice and clean to stay in, etc. Usually I see those who drop out after awhile is actually because they do not enjoy doing it; either they are curious, or they just want to do good deeds, but if you don't find satisfaction, very soon the chores will bring you down.
  17. Photos would be useful to understand more clearly. In general, plywood shouldn't bend alot (of course all wooden panels will bend) because its a combination of three (or more) pieces with their grains on opposite directions. Wood will usually bend in-line with their grains, so the playwood would bend only if they stick the pieces of wood together with all grains in the same direction.

    Duro Gate Lock

Yup, can't be that "D" & "E" cannot go together, more like "E" cannot go into the bar of your gate? It would be better for you to take the similiar shots as per the webpage but with your own HDB gate instead.
  19. I think for now we need to calm down and give this some time; after all, the estate had been opened for less than six months! Everyone is moving in and naturally there are alot of cartons, rubbish and stuff; of course I do not condone those who throw rubbish down the airwell, these people should be tracked down and penalised. But for the occasional heap at the lift lobbies, rubbish dumps or some loose cartons here and there, we just got to wait till all the residents settle down and see how it goes. Unless, of course, the situation becomes so badly infested with rats or pests, then we better go pressurise the town council for some immediate action. For now, its part and parcel of new estates lah, just bear with it for awhile.
  20. With that budget I think you should look around yahoo auctions or ebay for 2nd hand ones. They could be quite decent ones, mind you, eg some companies moving or closed down might want to clear their office equipment. Otherwise ikea got this Allak swivel chair at $128, quite decent also, if you can up your budget abit... http://www.ikea.com.sg/products/product_display.asp?id=2261
  21. Haha, mace I got another longer version of that: Beauty lies in the total abandonment of the observer and the observed and there can be self-abandonment only when there is total austerity. Art has no price; you pay what feel is worth paying for.
  22. Yes the power of attorney cannot be used for the signing of the application forms, statutory declarations, and/or any other undertakings. These must be signed by you personally. Be careful for statutory declarations, I think you must execute them in the presence of a commissioner of oaths or someone like that. Otherwise if you are overseas already, you have to go to the Singapore embassy to do it in front of the high commissioner/ambassador, which I think not cheap lor. Erm, actually dun worry lah, you are paying the lawyer to do this power of attorney, so I am sure s/he will advise you what that person can do or cannot do on your behalf, so that you can see to all these details before you leave. BTW never appoint your agent for power of attorney; always use your spouse or a close relative.
  23. In the first place if they did not overlay the tiles for your toilets, why did they do chemical wash there?? It is an industry practice for contractors to rectify whatever works they had caused. For eg when the electrician cut your false ceiling to install the lights, its their responsibility to plaster the ceiling back nicely. If they don't know how to do it, they have to pay for someone to come and plaster it back, or ask your false ceiling guy for a favour to help. So in your case, it is either they do back the grouting themselves, or they have to pay someone to do it, or they have to go beg HDB to redo it. Whatever it is, its their responsibility. Movers are another eg: If they damage your furniture during moving, or scratches your floor, its their responsibility to rectify it. Its only fair because nobody should go and spoil something and expect other people to 'keo sai' for them.
  24. I second this suggestion! Eg church ceremony on Sat, then dinner on Sun. After the ceremony everyone can go home or do their own business, shopping, bring kids out etc, while you and your hubby can go relax at home/hotel. Then on sunday, you also no need to wake up early and rush thru the whole thing, can laze around at home/hotel, go to spa, pedi/medicure, until about 4pm then start to prepare for dinner. And yeah, that's what I did for my wedding (except no church ceremony, but tea ceremony at home...). Is the wedding dinner location going to walking distance from the church? If not, then expect guests to go about doing their own business and perhaps come late for the dinner. But anyway, whether is it same day or different days, expect to have some guests to choose to come for one only.
