  1. Here's an example of how a concrete top would look like. Yes, it has reinforcement bars built in. Of course, u can then put anything you want on top e.g. tiles, wood, SS etc.
  2. Hi I'm also currently doing my reno at Serangoon North.. enjoy the process. Just posted a pic of his work in the forum. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/64547-tile-kitchen-countertop/?p=868274 Do PM me if you are interested in enquiring more about my contractor and his quality of work/price.
  3. Hi David.. from my experience in selecting the tiles and interacting with the sales staff over months, I had excellent service from in fact most of them. Even my contractor was surprised we could get certain things done with some of our suppliers which he could not. Guess I was lucky to have met them all.
  4. Hi... sent you my reply to your query. As for your latest question, You got to work out your sums... if your tiles are all more than $3, doesn't make sense to complain... However, if u have one about $2, then go get another tiles about $4, so that average is still about $3. Can negotiate with your contractor on this issue but look at the price of tiles you like first.
  5. Though you may not like cement look, how about the color itself - grey? There are many nice grey (from light to dark) tiles around which you can consider. Light blue or green, if you are adventurous enough.
  6. Hi whoam.. I went thru the diy route.. asked my contractor to quote manpower costs only. Having done so, I understand what that entails. Do PM me if you want to know more. Yes LSH has slightly cheaper tiles than Hafary.. but costs aside, do check whether the quality of tiles are the same. All the best
  7. Hi aluka, got my tiles mainly from both companies... Both sides have good buys.. depending on the type of tiles and costs you are looking for and willing to pay.. Was at Hafary today, there were some offers for european tiles, fyi.
  8. Hi Am planning to do a vanity cupboard with my basin for my bathroom. I came across before a plastic wooden door.. its as thick as wood but not heavy at all.. and best part, it is plastic and fully waterproof. Any one knows the name and where to get it so that my carpenter can use it to fabricate my cupboard? Thanks alot!
  9. Tell u the truth... after many years, the haze will still be there. Yes, have scrub bottom of sink before. Infact, it made things worse.. so bewarn An analogy to use is a SS sink; after many years, no matter how much SS cleaner u use, the scratch marks will eventually remain at the bottom. As my new sink will be facing the window and sun, hence my choice of Alu cos I'm afraid the anthracite will somewhat turn lighter... still thinking though. Just know why u r getting the sink for, then u would not be bothered by the haze, imo Thanks for the info btw
  10. Just stick with ICI or Nippon... both can't go wrong. Just go for best since contractor already charged u the fee (I assume u r doing reno already). Can goto ICI/Nippon website to compare prices
  11. Haha.. in my case, the choice for my Pleon for the new place would be anthracitr or alu... My existing sink is anthracite but after many years of use and abuse, the colour has somewhat faded. Leaning towards alu
  12. In my case, can use 600x300mm tiles in bathroom. However, he recommended 300x300mm tiles especially in the shower area for better water flow.
  13. Hope someone can shed some advice as I'm planning to install a frosted glass toilet door. Is it better to (i) sand blast the glass door to make it frosted or is it better to (ii) buy a smooth clear glass and paste a frosted film on it? Any pro and con? Thanks
  14. Get a reno loan... lower interest rate. Unfortunately, the money will be given to the contractor and not to you otherise it would be open to abuse (as in the case of my bank) Hope tt helps
  15. Hi I believe that pull-out basket is from Welmi, yes? Like the soft-close effect. I'm looking for one too. Besides, SSC and HK, I believe you have been there too at IMM (was just there just now looking for the basket). The other place would be Hafele. Me going there to check the various baskets soon.
  16. ikea has one such design in their showroom at Tampines
  17. just goto dedicated plumbing hardware shop... they would the solution there. Did tt for my US faucets.
  18. It's ok ... I got my unit last Aug... just starting reno soon
  19. I hope someone out there can share some kind advice with me. Is it possible to top mount an undermount stainless steel sink? I assume since the material is only about 1-1.2mm thick, i should think that should not be a real problem. Toying with this idea.. However, I'm not sure whether it is possible to silicone 1mm thick SS sink onto the countertop. Any pro/con of doing so? Thank you for replying.
  20. There is another higher priced PD door which is better than the flimsy door; of course it costs more too. Besglas costs more than PD door, but costs will start to go up once you choose the type of glass. However, selling point for PD is than it can slide and open.
  21. Never use composite wood (indoor use)... did your ID mentioned which type of wood? If you use wood, do make sure it's marine wood/plywood (haven't seen plywood version unless it's the one used in the construction sites).
