1 June 2013

Finally June Hoildays is here, I am free to do some big and DIY projects before I officially move in this month. I had always wanted to do keyless entry for my new abode. It is common for people to do digital locks for their main door and owners usually leave their gate unlocked or use normal padlock for the gate. But I found it amusing that if I will to do keyless for my main door and I still need to use keys for my main gate, then what's the point of doing keyless entry at the first place?

For sure, I will lock my main gate. I am a kiasu and kiasi Singaporean. So if main door is keyless, main gate must be keyless as well. So I went into researching the best digital locks for my main door and gate!

The more popular digital lock in the market is the Samsung 5320 model that comes with a handle to turn to open the door. I wish to have a lock that does not change the locking mechanism of the door so that if in the future, my digital lock is faulty.. I can still use the old traditional way to lock my door. Another advantage is that when I am going overseas for a long time, I can lock using the digital lock and also the traditional way to double secure my house.. haha, I am so kiasu! :bleah:

After doing some intense researching, I found the Gateman F10 digital lock is the lock that I am looking for! The lock has fingerprint and PIN function. I can either use my fingerprint or PIN to unlock my door. The best part is that it can be installed onto the main gate and door! None of the Samsung models can do that.. :jawdrop:

Therefore I arranged a installer to come to install the Gateman locks for both my gate and door. The installer started doing the gate first.

He is very experienced and explained to me the process and protective measures to protect the gate from scratches caused during installation.

There are 2 models in the market for the Gateman F10 locks, one is the F10, the latter is the F10 hook. Here's a picture of the 2 brothers!

2013-06-01153415.jpg

I had wanted to install the F10 hook as it comes in Gold colour but this lock cannot be installed onto the gate due to its locking mechanism so in order to keep it nicer for both the gate and door, I decided to install F10 for both of them.

Tada, the installer took 2 hours to install both locks. It is so nicely done!

The gate lock is protected with a stainless steel metal casing to protect against thieves from opening the gate from behind.

So how am I going to open the gate everytime I want to go out?? I am given a remote control to unlock the gate. Wahh, so advanced. Must hid the remote control somewhere secret in the house! :notti:

2013-06-01155150.jpg

Yeah! Finally I can go keyless when I go out for a run or cycling. It is also convenient for my siblings if they want to visit my mum and I do not need my mum to open the doors for them. What a good investment! :dancingqueen:

Make a guess on the company.. my locks speak Korean to me. As for the price, it is not good for me to disclose either here or PM because I got it at a special price and must keep it as a secret. :notti:

2 June 2013

Glory Sunday! It's the time for DIY project! As the man of the house, security will always be the first priority compared to anything else so installing grilles for my windows is always the priority. But for my wife, her priority is to prevent the insects/bugs/lizards and cockroaches from coming into our beloved abode. So our argument is always install grilles on the windows first or install insect screen first? Well because of the argument, my installation of the grilles has been put on hold till my brother in law got someone to install it for me as a housewarming gift.

And because of the grilles that were installed, the headache for the installation of the insect screen became bigger! Why bigger? Because no one install insect screen on grilles!! :jawdrop: Even the guy selling the insect screen told me not to install on grilles.

Well, I am a person who likes to troubleshoot and do things which most people dislike so it is another DIY project to try on.

My wife got magnetic insect screen from a DIY guru. This is his contacts. You can try it yourself if you want.

2013-06-02135109.jpg

My wife cut the dimensions of the magnetic stripes that fit the grilles and install the mosquito net onto the frame.

2013-06-02000655.jpg

The process is quite troublesome as we did not know how to setup initially, however after fixing it again and again, we got the first frame fixed up in the living room!

It is already 2am after we got the first frame up. So tiring! We decided to continue the next day.

Woke up super late this morning, nearly 12pm! This shows how tired we are the night before. :notti: I went to buy lunch and my wife stayed at home to continue fixing the insect screen.

By the time I am back, the insect screen for the living room is up! The training last night really make her an experienced installer.. hahaha

2013-06-02135316.jpg

In another hour, we got the insect screen installed in the MBR as well. Just took a photo just now to show how the insect screen looks like as the photo taken in the day is no good.

Finally the "invisible" grille is up for the insects! :notti: My wife can have a peace of mind when the windows are open and no bugs/ lizards / cockroaches can come into our house! Shall monitor for a week to see how effective it is before I get another 2 pieces for my mum's room and kitchen window! :jammin:
