  1. I'm in love with the ebony one! but your place your rules.
  2. Old people nothing to do so a lot of opinions. As long as you did your research, don't mind them. Everyone will have their own views. And Reno is tiring enough to bother about them! enjoy your beautiful home instead.
  3. @Starrain Go with who you feel comfortable with. Nick has great carpentry standards for as much as I know though, so I wouldn't be disappointed going with either. @pipsqueak You are very much welcome! We love our gas heater despite what people who don't understand it says. We cook almost daily with gas, and use the heater for rainshower plus my tub (about once every week), and my gas bills at $14 (!!!!!). I am in awe. I love that I get to enjoy it but save money and the environment at the same time!
  4. The Tecno could very well be Made in Italy. My Bosch hood (which was pretty low end) is, so it's possible. however I wouldn't consider it a plus to purchase an electronic item. Nowadays, MIC Bosch can function and last better than MIG one (tested, googled, verified by technician uncles). Plus Italy hor not considered very good in manufacturing la as far as I know Just purchase what you like + what is good for your needs. The made in not that important for me tbh. expensive Dysons are also made in Malaysia but function for years and years and years. Shopping is the fun part! But I agree with OceanEleven, a lot of things change once you get keys and start Reno. I've had to have my mind changed many times due to carpentry or what my contractor told me. so pace yourselves!!
  5. Love the marble backsplash! One of my few regrets in my home. cant wait to see the finished product!
  6. I agree! Unfortunately I wasn't given too much time for pictures so the LR one didn't turn out that great. Ah well! You can't edit any entry. Mine are wood-like homo / porcelain tiles. They feel like tiles but they do have grains like wood that you can feel. Hardwood you probably will build a kerb in between the tiles and the wood... If not it will probably cause damage (as seen from my last EC it was built like that).
  7. Tiling uncle told me matte tiles can get light color but need to get better quality (expensive ones). He says very big diff in maintenance. matte tiles in dark shades is virtually self-maintaining. But I agree glossy looks cleaner and cleans easier with mop! that said, I am very thankful I got my dark matte floors cus my coffee table shattered all over during cleaning and if I'd gotten glossy really ggwp
  8. If any of you has some extra time, could you please help me favorite my home on Apartment Therapy? It's always been my dream to be featured and it's finally up: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/kara-annes-sanctuary-in-singapore-small-cool-2016-230498 Thank you!
  9. Welcome back! Were your tiles from HDB? Bummer to hear! Tiles used to be so easy to maintain, but quality has definitely dropped over the years.
  10. Ah I see! for my Bosch hood, the charcoal filters are also one-click, just at the sides instead! Ah I never tried orienting it. Good to know I wasn't duped.
  11. Btw bro, the rainshower noise aside, I can vouch it's very water-conserving. Apparently the noise is the air technology using less water to "compress" and create water pressure. My hubby bathes there multiple times a day (he loves the rainshower) and our water bills are significantly lower than my friends' who use the small Grohe rainshower twice a day.
  12. POST-MOVE IN REVIEWS: I realized I never did a review post to make my t-blog relevant and useful to most renovators, so here I am after seeing a few review posts on other T-Blogs. I have moved in for about 5 months now and everything is really settling into "day-to-day mode" and I can see what is useful and what isn't. Overall, I have only a few regrets for my home. Other than that I have no regrets! My house suited our "flow" completely and had no white elephants or wastage of space. Everything is perfect and my friends were very surprised because of all the horror stories they'd heard! --------------------------------------- Now on the main stuff I bought. I realized I never wrote reviews because I had nothing to complain about! I got really really lucky, or should I say BLESSED, with all the right stuff! That's it for now! If there's anything you want me to review LMK! HDB toilets get a bit damp though, especially the BTO ones, so I actually got the $7.90 foldable rack from ikea to place in my GIGANTIC corridor to my rooms to air dry my wet towels instead of using the towel racks inside sometimes.
  13. The rainshower is noisy because it's using "air" to add water pressure. Yes it's noisy. My husband likes it though, cus the white noise cancels out noise outside. Only he uses that toilet. I have also protected it with transparent spray seal to prevent rusting. my gold tap doesn't leak at all. :/ it was quite well built IMO! Surprised that the Teka hob hood oven and sink had such issues! I guess I'm very blessed. My hood's filters are one click... Just push to remove and both comes out the same way. My oven's knobs don't get hot at all! The door too I can stand and cook in front of it with no issues. I'm very surprised that these basic things were not thought of by Teka! oh for the rust stains on your stainless steel sink, try the white magic sponge from Daiso or 3M. Works wonders. I don't mind my Monic sink And the stains come off with the sponge easily.
  14. Love the dedicated closet space for the missus' luxury bags. Hehehe. I have something similar but from IKEA congrats on moving in! Looking great!
  15. Hey there! Ok, Macro has been working very well for me. My master gets heated up much slower than the guest because it's further. I would say maybe 10 - 20 seconds max for the water to heat up. It does stay hot enough for the entire shower, or even to fill my entire tub, so I would say it is consistent. It's definitely not instant. I just use the first 10-20 seconds to rinse out my shower area. There is absolutely ZERO gas smell or any deposits on clothes. ZERO. This is a myth, I feel. My bunnies live in my SY and my kitchen so I would never expose them to something like this. There is ZERO smell when working, just the sound of it heating up. Hope that helps! I also almost chose Ferroli due to the last EC I stayed in, but the Citygas lady told me Macro was better.
  16. Hey there! aww. He might be overwhelmed. That said, he wasn't super well-versed in design so you have to be very direct and focused with him. Nick has more of an ID background so he can help more design-wise. but then that brings about another con. Edmund only takes a certain number of projects at any one time, whereas I know Nick takes on A LOT at one go. Part of the reason why I didn't go for him eventually, though I know he's quite responsible. He scares me because he talks about his past clients, and I always worry that with him, if I complain about something that seems small to him, he will talk about me badly to another prospect. But of course sometimes I wonder if he'll have even more good ideas for me compared to Edmund. thank you for your kind words! I am always apprehensive about the way I chose to do my home up, and always feel inadequate to most cus everyone else does so much custom carpentry... But your words make me very happy. Thank you.
  17. Moar moar moar!! Your walk in wardrobe area is the bomb man. Make me jelly only. How's staying inside? Enjoying it? got ID design rly different man. Make me regret mine just a teeny bit hehe. very tasteful but empty!! Haha no wonder you say still filling up. Indeed. Awesome, @nextstep
  18. My countertop lighting box was concealed inside my carpentry. At the end of my carpentry (sitting on the rightmost wall), there is a white box up with the transformer (?) and stuff inside. I see no visible wires. as for the socket, maybe your electrician hasn't sealed the sides yet? That's why it's wobbly?
  19. Kitchen top looks good. Very creative! The swirls look like the "white granite" another T-Blogger did. One of my small regrets for my kitchen was to do my marble-esque top all the way to the backing as well, but at the time we were quite ok with the backsplash tiles. Haha. Happy for you! Everything's coming into place!
  20. LOVE the floor and the laminate wall -- goes together very well! You guys make me feel like I need to do more for my own house. Haha!
  21. Love the updates! Seriously can't wait to see the completed outcome!
  22. I spray painted them. But they're not perfect of course. It took us 2 tries... There are some places that are not noticeable that have rub offs, in the high traffic areas, but overall they're ok. my contractor did not offer to spray paint for me. You can buy pre-made Gold handles, like some t-bloggers did. I wanted to order from Amazon but they weren't the right size for my vision.
  23. When I started my t-blog, there were very limited marble-looking countertop choices so we had to go with the Gloria solid top. It is one of the most realistic Carrara marble lookalikes we've seen. but it seems like more people are doing it which meant more quartz choices for it. I know after my Reno is complete then there was a new one on Lux's blog... But it's ok cus the solid top was quite cheap so we are ok to change the top and sink if we want to in a few years' time. solid top takes maintaining and careful usage compared to Quartz. So consider Quartz if you like the look. I really couldn't accept the "marble" Quartz countertop so went with the solid top.
