  1. Can the brightness or "intensity" of the "fire" be tuned? As in, tune down a little to make it milder? Does it come with that option?
  2. Basically, most home appliances, items and lightings shop owners will tell you don't buy anything from China, as the latter is the reason why many vendors are closing shop in Singapore. Not a fan of Chinese stuff but in my reno experience, I heard so many people making anti china-ware sentiments but they themselves rebrand their alibaba imports and said it's from Hong Kong.
  3. Possible. I had the same layout as yours, except the utility room (Mine wasnt upgraded). And I managed to have the toilet twice the initial size, and without breaching HDB rules.
  4. It's quite different from the rest of the 4 rooms. A look at the floor plan, one immediate headache I would get is the master bedroom, with door from the bathroom jutting in the middle of the bedroom. Would like to see how you put the reno together.
  5. For a single man's home, could you have overpowered with electrical appliances? I mean, the sustainability issue with electrical bills etc like Big fridge models you chose. I reckon your washer, tv, hop hood also the higher end and bigger model?
  6. Not really. Singapore really has the most ex of almost anything except public phone calls still at 10 cents.
  7. I did a solid teak wood door and shipped in from overseas. The local ones didn't appeal. Now trying to get a locksmith to fix an appropriate and not overdone lock, so that it doesn't kill the rustic appeal of the door. I may resort to key and lock. :S
  8. I agree completely with you on this. The facade of any household starts with the main door. I spent a lot of effort to make sure I have the correct main door, and a gate to compliment. Good thing is my unit is away from lift, no fire doors mandated. This made life much easier for me.
  9. OK wise decision given the circumstances. All the best in your adventure. Creating something different is always challenging but in the end, you stand before your apartment, and the smile is the best pay off.
  10. Actually if i am ever going to put a faux fireplace, i would get the contractor to erect one up using bricks. Sometimes it's the raw-ness of the whole piece that churns out reality from the "faux" element. Not to mention, overly refined textures are the give away. For me I would create a "real" fireplace which is no longer in use, rather than one in immaculate condition. Something for you to ponder.
  11. Actually you just need the overall impression. leave the delicate details alone they come in later. when i did my own ID for my 3 room flat, i showed the contractor all the sketches and i realize words left too much for interpretation. The other impt crucial detail is colour, which i am sure you can see in your own vision.
  12. sketch it out based on whats in your mind. dont use those id softwares.
  13. typically a fireplace is never placed in small space because of the fire hazards (electric heaters excepted) and overheating. unless you have a floor space between your furniture and the fireplace, it would not look natural. some pointers for you to mull when positioning your couches.

  15. Depends on what kind of ambiance you want to build for your kitchen. I even had wall papers on the ceiling for the desired effect.
  16. Such floorplans have much potential. You can always think of ways to make spaces bigger. If you don't need two rooms, get rid of one and you will see spaces.
  17. Just engaged a Handyman by the name of Michael. Excellent, punctual and efficient. Blinds installation, air-con cleaning, drilling, assembly, TV mounting etc. His prices are far lower than any of those online companies. Just used him last weekend and will be meeting him tomorrow to do mirror installation. Works quoted by a Handyman company for $660 I got it done by Michael efficiently for $200. Drop a PM if you need to engage him. He speaks mandarin.
  18. I also know of someone who did good vinyl flooring and completed within 1.5 days on my new flat. The guys literally worked overnight and it was a well done job. Comes in $4.50/$5 per square feet, w installation and skirting. Drop a PM if you need more info.
  19. I had my wallpaper done lately and was pretty happy with the outcome. If you would like to explore drop me a PM and I will link you to the contractor.
