  1. Have to agree with you on that... the kitchen is really quite small with little counter space. It's really not much of a choice ba. Don't worry about the pipes issue la. I'm sure Uncle will plan properly. So exciting right? it's starting so soon. As for the Appliances you named.. you might want to have a cabinet thingy to stack them all up. I have a toaster and a microwave also. Going to do that in the dining area. mmm *** edit**** YA I was so envious of mrspiglet's beam cos it shields the poles nicely when they are not in use!!! Now I dunno what to do with mine and I think they are ugly. LOL I'm going to spend more hours psychoing my mom to get the tumble dry thing.
  2. I think for both of the contractors.. you should be able to make it within 15k... mmm you might have to stinge a little on the fittings though. haha Mimi.. I'm always online as long as I'm home. Monday is always the best day to call Uncle for anything cos he is fresher from his break on Sunday. Call him one hour before appt time to remind him ok?
  3. Hey Wendy... that's a fantastic design. And how you separated your kitchen is really good. Just to ask.. what is your counter top material and do you know the brand? I didn't know that Uncle can make it over the side like that...
  4. WAh you're so lucky! I think your area is better. Uncle Soon once told me that Simei/Tampines Town Council is very stringent in enforcing Renovation Procedure. And during my reno, I really saw officers coming in to check and even after the reno too. It was quite scary. So Uncle never had any workers in my house doing "heavy" work on PH and Sundays... I think I know which Chinese tiler you're talking about. I had one who came to my house doing rectifications... SUPER slow.. walked about half the time not doing anything until Jason points out things to him. Looking forward to pictures!!
  5. wahahhahahaha Today is a holiday... Vesak Day was on Sat but we work 5-day week so we were given off in lieu. So I'M AT HOME LEGALLY!
  6. Hey! I just saw your kitchen pictures!! Very nice. Your counter is exactly what I want for a dining table!!!
  7. Haiz this was one of the reasons why I had a tough time looking for a flat... parents will check the neighbours out to see if they are the sort who prayed often. They even bothered to visit the house many times (without going in) just to check and see if the neighbours are ok. *faints* In your case DoubleJ, What time do they burn the thing? Honestly... I can only think of one thing.. to put up with it. Religious things like this are a bit touchy. They might get angry if you approach them?
  8. mmm one of the things I like about service balcony is that it prevents the hanging laundry from marring the beautiful kitchen. haha My laundry hanging in my kitchen is a big eyesore to me. Anyways I think if you don't hack through the service balcony then leaving the pipes is ok. But if you do, then maybe you would want to hide it in a cabinet ba. Box up and put inside a cabinet. Uncle did that for mine. He boxed it up and the bottom part of it is in my cabinet. End of next month should be ok.. Permit (without hacking of walls) can be approved overnight. So don't worry too much about that.
  9. Thanks guy77. Rem to ask! mm mrspiglet.. yours is the corridor window so you wouldn't get rain splashing in. Mine is an open window with no corridor gap so I'm afraid about the rain leh. how? sob. I scared water can trapped below like fannie says and the laminates will spoil.
  10. For my toilets, it was a complete hack and haul. And I hacked my kitchen floor and cemented over the kitchen tiles... Including the shower screen, bifold door, plumbing, electrical and cabinets, I paid about $11k. My cabinets were bottom cabinets only.
  11. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Aiyoh I love service balconies leh. I think you're lucky that at least your pipe is in the service balcony and not in the kitchen. Otherwise it'll take up even more space in your kitchen...
  12. hide inside cabinet ah? I think inside cabinet is ok... lol it's boxing up... that is a problem for SOME flats.
  13. mmm When my dad asked for the pipes to be concealed, Ah Soon also say it's against HDB ruling.. so we didn't do it. But the pipes are not too obvious so it's ok heh
  14. Ya Uncle usually starts work earlier on Mondays, having rested over the weekend. hehehhe I better give him a call...
  15. I bought things from there also... So far so good.. no mouldy areas.. I think it varies batch to batch... so it's a luck thing... mm
  16. WAHHH The kitchen looks completely different even when the layout is the same... NICE!!!! And you changed all your windows to white ones... much nicer... makes me tempted to change.. Just one question.. Your corridor window... has one panel with half smaller gaps... why? The MBR toilet looks more luxurious now... and you swopped the tap and shower... much better layout. I love the rectangular mosaic you used for your common toilet... also from Sin Lek? Hehe you went DK lighting also?? That's such a cute light!! So suitable and $75 is a good deal! I love your bedroom doors... did they cost you a lot of money? We have the same passageway light!!! I love it when it's on!! I wanted your dining lights!! but my parents didn't like them... *BLEH* Did you see the black crystal one that has three danging thing like that also? DK put LED lights in them... that one is also very nice!! CONGRATS!!
  17. YAY Congrats! I agree with the rest.. the common toilet looks ok! In fact, the kitchen cabinets look ok too.. hehe
  18. Congratulations! Nice to see the drawings up!
  19. hi risis... this is what I meant It can be a curve like you mention or an uneven wave like side. I think in the original platform the corner makes it easy to stumble over (esp for clumsy people like me). haha Anyway I think your house is so vibrant... adding some unconventional curves will be nice. IMHO.
  20. ahh the original flooring for stairs was parquet so you can save some money from that... that's good. Good that Uncle will be rectifying the mosaics. I think it's important for all this "dirtier" rectifications to be done now.
  21. mmm Your access balcony has been bought? It's soooo big?
  22. YAY looking forward to your pictures!!!!
  23. WOW your house will really look very modern... just one small suggestion? The red platform you might want to make a wave in the corner, instead of leaving the sharp corner like that as people might stumble and fall over it...
  24. I'm not very concerned about the space... but I'm concerned about water coming in from the window. Cos that window faces the outside... if anyone throws water out of the window it will splash in, or if we forget to close the windows properly when it rains... Although the latter wouldn't happen often cos we make it a habit to close properly but I'm still afraid. I don't intend to put anything on top though. hehe You ask lliao tell me ok?
  25. MmMm Maybe this is the right time to say this... even since you all mentioned about Uncle and Jason being sick and overloaded I've toned down on the recommendations.. I started doing it less since 2-3 weeks ago. I would talk to the person more before I recommend.. I shall talk more about this in my own blog ba
