  1. For those considering direct Contractors vs ID, you may want to consider my contractor who has done a great job for me at very good contractor prices. The designs as shown which I asked a few IDs and they say it cannot be done. I was a bit hesitant at first, even at the last moment till I saw his other job sites. Look at the pictures for my house and his other job sites. Wow!

  6. Boonjie reno company is located in Mandai, and we met David and Davidson Lau twice before deciding to sign up with them. Tbh, we were quite stressed up with our reno works when we initially signed up with another reno co, run by Mr Ong. The initial reno works started in Oct2018 and still not even halfway done in Feb2019. Ong came up with alot of excuses and delays. We decided to stop the works and go to Boon Jie for help. Mr David was very professional and can immediately illustrate what we have in our minds for all the carpentry works (other stuff are half done by Ong). Boon Jie did the measurements and partition walls very quickly, and re-adjusted some of our power points for us, and promised to be done in Mar2019. It took them only 3 weeks to handover as promised, and the works are solid. No regrets engaging them, as our house is in move in condition with no defect. Recommended!!

  9. This is a late review but I see it as a confirmation of the quality of Field and Country Concept’s workmanship. I ordered a craft closet of sorts from Field almost 3 years ago, and recently contacted him again to do some touch ups and also changing of the wheels. (The wheels has stripped as it’s the nature of rubber.) However, what I am most delighted about Field’s professionalism is that even though the project has already ended after 3 years, he still made sure that the closet is up to standard, and asking me if I wanted anything to be fixed or adding more stuff like shelves etc. There was nothing to be fixed because everything worked perfectly for 3 years, despite constant abuse (I’m notorious for not taking good care of my stuff). I casually mentioned that I wanted more dowels to store more washi tapes, and Field immediately asked me to send him some photos, and arrived with a solution that was way better than I had anticipated. I wish I can add more photos or even videos regarding that, but if you’re interested in knowing more about this particular project, you can read about it here: https://dayre.me/doubleoxm/1CXbokKSRgThis craft closet is also something that Country Concept has attempted for the first time, and they made it wonderfully. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about other carpenters having shoddy workmanship, and this made me realise how lucky I am to even be able to find Field as the very first carpenter I work with to get this work done.If I have to make another craft closet, I will definitely go to Country Concept again, no questions ask.
  10. Hi Everyone, I am planning to explore the DIY route for my BTO renovation and would like your help to get some contacts of reliable contractors. Mainly, I need contractors for Tile laying, carpentry, minor masonry (hacking of a small wall at half height) and electrical. Please PM me or directly reply to this message (if the forum allows it). 11. Dear home owner, After doing my research online for some time, I noticed that the description is about the same. Things that they provided about the same. Those post online - 4299(all in kitchen package) / 3988(all in package) die die want to close me on the spot. Keep doing hard sales makes me walk away more. Until one day, I walked pass this ID firm at Ubi. The lady designer showed me this package and email me after I left. When I walk in, the drinks was served. I felt like I had returned home. I asked for any package and was presented this, by far this is the cheapest with everything I needed. I dont like the base in concrete, I dont need to do washing at kitchen. i do not cook at all. All i need is a sleek look for my kitchen. When I asked if I could install 15ft bottom / 5ft top to make it 20ft. They are able to provide and at a lower cost They rest die die need 10/10 I am happy with the service face to face. exp - Good! She understand her work very well. Explained the schedule & material used. CS- Superb, very friendly & nice. will definitely recommend to family / friends.
  12. Hey guys, I am here to share my experience working with Singapore Carpentry. I have heard a lot of horror stories regarding renovation so I was sceptical about finding a good interior designer, to say the least. A friend of mine recommended me to this company and helped me to get an appointment with Ernest Tan. He was very patient with me and really listened to the concerns I had regarding this process. He explained how the whole renovation process works, the approximate duration it would take and give me a range of how much this whole renovation would cost. I showed him the kind of style I wanted my home to be like and passed him my floor plan and a couple of days later he sent me a sketch of my home (Landed property: Living room, Kitchen, Dining room, 4 Bedrooms) and I was sold. I signed the contract a week after that and it was the best decision I’ve made for my new home. He sent me a more detailed 3D sketch subsequently and everything was a breeze from there. Ernest handled everything from start to finish (plumbing, electrical wiring, tiling, ceiling etc were all in-house services so he arranged everything). There were a couple of hiccups here and there with contractors (there was a delay from contractors doing false ceiling and so the other work like tiling etc had to be delayed as well) but Ernest was on site to handle all these matters personally and made sure that there would be no delay on the dateline that was given to me (12 weeks). I was impressed with Ernest regarding this specific occasion. So I spoke to a few other IDs regarding this particular concern I had and all but Ernest told me he would make it work. I wanted to convert my backyard from what was plain and empty into one where my family could lounge around and relax in. All the IDs told me they couldn’t do this work at the budget I was willing to set aside, but Ernest made that possible for me. He really helped me cut cost where he could and advised me on certain materials that I could substitute so it still serves the purpose without expanding a hole in my pocket. Another thing I need to highlight is their carpentry work. They handle these services in-house, so it's much cheaper than what you get outside for the same quality and workmanship, so I really recommend this service if you are looking for one. I got all my cabinets done by them for kitchen, wardrobe etc and everyone comments on how sleek they look. The whole renovation work took slightly less than 11 weeks. My wife and I are very pleased with the end results, so we really recommend this company. Anyone interested in engaging them can contact my designer, Ernest Tan at 81004193.
  13. Hi guys, I want to share with you guys my own experience with this ID. I was introduced by a very good friend of my who has their house renovated by Ms Daphne. She is very patient and meticulous, willing to listen to what my mother and i want for our new home. I emailed her our floorplan and roughly discussed over the phone. She was so accommodating and agree to my idea. During the very 1st appointment at her office at Taiseng. We have a comfortable time discussing. I have many ideas for the new house renovation however thanks to Ms Daphne explaining to me some of my ideas are not practical. Unlike some ID as they aim to earn consumer money and not want to chase the customer away so they will compliance with the ideas given to them. This impressed me, as she took time and effort to plan my house furniture layout properly by understanding me and my mother living lifestyle. Further, she had his own ideas and suggested come which really more practical. We also gave our budget for the renovation. She was very straightforward told us while she is doing quotation she will try to fit into our budget however there will be some example that based on the quality of a product where there might extra cash need to be forked out. She assure us that the quality will be there as she is renovating the house that hope we will stay for long not only 5 years lifespan. In addition, our key concern was not about the renovation cost only but most important is a clean, reliable and quality workmanship. Finally, after going through procedures finally we got our keys. 2nd appt we meet at our new house. She has a habit of taking pictures of the whole house to take note where is the columns or beam and an extra mile to take site measurement to make sure measurement is tally with floor plan. Indeed there is difference, luckily she take site measurement. Therefore, she able to quote more accurately. Unlike other ID, will only requires floor plan to do quotation. Which I was impressed how meticulous is she. Initial plan we wanted to overlay the toilet to save some costs but when we go up the house, she checked out the toilet it has been over lay 2 times alrdy by checking the floor trap. Therefore no choice we have to hack and re do waterproofing and lay new tiles. I would say she is a ID that is very responsible and honest. Sharing us which is a must to do and which are the ones we can do in future if there is a budget constrain and explain in detail. For eg. why cannot overlay 3rd layer. I must say she is very responsible and passionate about her job through 2 meetings with her. Whole renovation process lasted near 2 months which consist of full house hacking, plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry work. During whole renovation process, we were updated through whatsapp with frequent jobsite photos. It is a really very good experience with frequent update of my house renovation while I am working. I have a ease of mind experience with her. After all, we are satisfied with her carpentry workmanship and we happily handover our last 10% payment and planned house warming! I will be happy to share my ID contact details with you all.

  15. Hi guys, i would like to share my good experience and complement a contractor, project management skill in building our dream home! what set them apart from other firms is that he is able to to accommodate to our schedule and gave us detailed planning to save space also his willingness to listen and provide valuable advice on design aesthetics and functionality, giving us a truly unique home. After consulting several firms, they are able to deliver what other contractors could not. During renovation stage, he pays a lot of attention to details and is able to execute flawlessly on what we had planned, He is very helpful and supportive during our renovation journey and ensure the quality and build is done to the utmost standards. All in all, although what we seek is a contractor but the service he gave was like of a id. I really like his ideas and proposed 3D designs and amendments were always made promptly according to my preferences. I also appreciate that he always try to work around my budget while still achieving what I wanted in the end. It's been nearly 2 months after hand over and there was only 1 rectification so far and was promptly. i'll attach some photo here for viewing, feel free to dm me if you want to see more.

  18. Hi, I know there are few threads here about ABS trimming, but I still don't seem to get the idea of it fully. One of the IDs we met told us ABS trimming is the small 1mm round thingie you see where two laminates meet. Another ID said ABS Trimming comes only in standard sizes like 23mm or 44mm. Which one is it? It can't be the small round thingie if it is 23mm right? Let us take the case of a door for the bottom kitchen cabinet. The top of the door has a 45 degree cut out that acts as a handle. I couldn't find a relevant picture with the 45 degrees cut for the handle, but something like that attached picture should help me with my questions: I know that the wood-looking surface on the outside of the door is laminate. How about the wood looking surface which is pasted on the small area which acts as the handle? I would assume it is also laminate since it has to match the same color as the outside laminate. Or is it part of the ABS trimming (i saw someone call it Edge band). What is that small 1mm gray looking material? Is that the ABS trimming? Sorry for such a noob question. It is because I, unfortunately, am a noob when it comes to all this. Any response would be great

  20. Hey all, I finally decided on an ID for my new DBSS at Centrale at Tampines in last month. It was so tiring seeing one after another but I learnt a lot from my experiences and decided to choose this ID as she was earnest, knowledgeable and willing to take on my demands. 24. Hello, everyone! I'm usually a lazy person so I can't believe I'm actually here doing this. I just got my BTO flat done up and the whole process of looking for an ID, going through designs and quotations REPEATEDLY to find the right one was such a hassle. We all working adults, where got time?? Every weekend burned. I heard terrible stories from my friends and colleagues of going with the wrong ID, aside from the obvious money loss, there was also constant worrying and bad fixture of lights, tiling, and water piping issues that made things far worse than you could imagine. Waste time and waste money in the long run. To help young couples like myself or any first time ID experience, I'm going to share with you guys my amazing ID that I chanced upon. I was discussing design plans with another designer (overpriced and not good, can PM me if u wanna avoid potential trouble) at Novena starbucks when I saw Kelvin. Hubby and I noticed he was on his laptop using AutoCAD. Hubby told me this is usually used by architects. We were super impressed with what he was doing (he was shifting furniture from many angles). None of the 4 IDs we discussed with were as professional as this. After our meeting ended, we approached K and asked him if he was an ID. Indeed he was and that was how our reno journey begun. Kelvin was beyond impressive and hardworking. To put simply, his work ethics is amazing His follow ups were really super. His prices were decent and in terms of carpentry, workmanship was good and cheaper than most. We found out that he studied architecture in NUS so he had extremely good knowledge in this aspect. Our reno was extremely user-friendly with no cock ups, especially toilets and kitchens (most of my friends horror stories, were that although the design is nice but not functional in LR. problems start popping out after time, piping issues like washing machine or toilets, as a lot of IDs don't have proper knowledge on how houses are built. they only know design from being a copycat is not enough, create a lot of problems underneath the surface). One thing that really stood out was this: most IDs I work with gave us designs sketch ups or drawings that look good and impressive. This normally drawn by hand. Make a small room look super big and nice. My friends tell me this just a trick, finished product usually disappointing and lousy. when I see drawings from IDs, I get very skeptical. My hubby: The room got so big meh? ID: This design will open up your room. Seamless finishing and more windows, blah blah. For Kelvin, all his designs and floorplans were drawn to exact dimensions. This really help us with choosing the right furnitures and improve our home. No disappointments at all overall, hubby and I are super satisfied and happy with how smooth everything went. Kelvin really gave us a peace of mind, glad to avoid horror stories and start our life in our perfect home. This was longer than expected so I shall end here. If got questions on design or interested can PM me, happy to share!
