  5. So how we got started on our journey or processes on our NN Loft? I must say that it all started out by proposing to my girlfriend / fiancee who is now my wife by asking her to apply a BTO flat. I know it sounds funny but isn't it a fact that some or even most couples before they get engaged, the guy pops the question of "Wanna apply a BTO flat together?" LOL! So that's where it all started...............Nov 2011. My wife and I logged in to the HDB website to see the sales launch in November 2011. There were a few locations or sites for us to choose. Punggol Waterway Banks and Ridges, Hougang Capeview and Dewcourt, Yishun Acacia Breeze, Bukit Panjang Fajar Spring and Bedok Golden Cassia. We went through all the locations that HDB launched and we decided on Punggol Waterway Banks and Ridges. This site will be located along the iconic Punggol Waterway. 8. Hello there, Like many other new house owners, I've been a silent reader of this T-blog ever since hub & I ballot a BTO flat 3 years ago... And recently we have received our keys from HDB! So there's the typical floor plan for a standard BTO 4rm flat @ Sengkang Westway. As expected, the house is really small... The Living Room Area Walkway Kitchen
  9. Hello! After three solid years of lurking, I finally signed up. For easy reference, I'm Pepper and my partner is Tony; nice to meet you. Here's the raw floor plan for Casa Stark: It's a 4-room BTO unit in Sengkang West. You may have heard of the estate in the news at the beginning of the year... I've begun assembling contacts for the job, as well as some really great advice, but any and all recommendations and suggestions are totally welcome. Like another semi-Stark, I know (next to) nothing. I also have a separate blog that I'll be using to document the process and subsequent living, but I noticed that this forum is where people come for the extreme details (e.g. how much each tile costs) so I'll do my best to put that stuff in. All the better to help others! And also get info on whether I'm overspending for certain things. Will update with more images and unnecessary pop culture references as we go along. In the meantime I have several Pinterest boards worth of references and inspiration, please feel free to browse. Cheers, y'all.
  10. Hi, After years of reading and admiring all the T-blogs, it is finally our turn to contribute. Received our keys in Jan and since it was nearing CNY, we decided to only commit after all the new year celebrations. Due to our tight budget, we were only looking at contractors and we had a theme in mind, thus we some sort knew what we wanted. Met with 3 contractors and here is our honest opinion on all. H*o : we requested a quote from the famous Mr. K but I think he was too busy with projects, we were attended to by his project executive lady K. Quote is on par with ID rates, very patient, listens to your wants and needs. during our first meeting at K's office, she listened to what we want and during that meeting she didn't really note down on what we wanted but when we received the revised quote, we have all the items listed, am really impressed with that. However, due to her young age we feel (might be wrong) that she is inexperienced. Whatever questions we asked her, she told us that it's up to us and if we like it. S*v*n St*ges : was invited to view a neighbor's flat, D quoted us for our place. Sad to say, no connection, had his own ideas and only cared on design aspect. Quote wise, most expensive amongst all with the least carpentry. J: after reading "lovescandi" T-blog, we or I shamelessly admit that I love love her place. If you have not seen, please read her blog. She so kindly gave me J's contact. During our meeting with J, we felt the he is very professional, sincere and honest. Tells you directly what can be done and what cannot. He gave lots of suggestions and advices. Us being first time home buyers and novice to home renovation, we need someone who is experienced and knows what he is doing. We chose J out of the three as he and E made us feel very comfortable during our meetings. Also, we felt a sense of assurance, sincerity and flexibility. We will be commencing reno soon, finger crossing all will go well..
  11. Hi all, After 4 years of waiting, we finally gotten our BTO keys! Its a typical 4 room floor plan however we opted out for the doors not because the doors are not good, its because they are so not flexible like PD doors in the end they will still be removed and changed. And also we do not want to have such a mainstream doors for the bathroom, I promise you can never imagine it in my home. Stay tuned! So excited! So ya here's our floor plan~
  12. Hi there! Decided to start this t-blog to share my renovation progress with everyone as I have been actively scouring many forums for advice and have benefited a lot from fellow T-bloggers! As I embark on this Bali-Resort themed home, I hope all the tips and tricks as well as contacts I've learnt or known would contribute to those who are renovating their home or getting keys to their new place! For a start, choosing this theme was a rather big decision for my wife and I as this is not a popular theme and I found out that it's not the cheapest as well! How we got the idea to do this theme is because my wife and I love the sun, sand and sea! Thus, when we took our pre-wedding photos, we chose Bali. We immediately fell in love with the place because it's so beautiful and so happening! There are so many things you can do and there's always some hidden gems that you haven't heard of everytime you talk to someone about Bali! After we got our ballot ticket to choose our flat, I immediately consult my fengshui master, Master Tong to help me in choosing the ideal flat. Unfortunately, the best unit in my new BTO estate is a corridor unit but thankfully HDB had changed the design where there's no more windows by the corridors to prevent theft. Fast forward to today, I've already collected my keys and have inspected my place. Now waiting for them to finish up on the defects and Master Tong to audit my place in Early March! Here's my original floor plan! Content Page: Choosing your ID Choosing your Hob & Hood
  13. SCANDI So the wife decided to finally start the t-blog, but I'm being forced to post. So as usual, at the start of our home making process, I decided that she would make the decisions, since she had all the arty-farty ideas. But i guess this saves me all the trouble of hearing her nag in future, if she decides that she doesn't like any aspect of the house so i guess i'm making a very smart and tactical move. My only requirements to her were that I wanted a fully functional kitchen, since i am the masterchef, and even bookshelves for the bookworm that is me =) So here goes. As usual the arty-farty wife decided that we would call our blog - Colour our Scandi Home, and our first post would be called "SCANDI" or Super Colourful And Novel DIY Ideas Why? U should have guessed it, Scandi but with pops of light pastel colours. Similar to what some of the t-bloggers here have, just that we would have elements which we hope to DIY ourselves. So like many of us here, Pinterest became our best friend. And my wife started pinning into tons and tons of boards. Well, see good choice there. This is what we started out thinking how her house would look like. p.s. Pls don't be misled by the pictures - these were what the wife was dreaming of when she started out as she was very very excited to be making all the decisions =) So as u can see, she wants it to have light brown, pastels, grey and whites. As usual the skeptical me was like okay, whatever makes u happy. so we started going around talking to IDs to find out more about how to make our her dream house come true. Here's the sample layout of our place. Time to sleep will update another day - if the wife doesn't kill me for making fun of her that is =p
  14. What do you guys think of the columbarium situation at Fernvale Lea? With the upcoming columbarium, would you ask for a refund instead?
  15. Hi all, I will be getting a 3room bto(floorplan attached below) soon and having look through quite a few websites, it does not really suits my needs. 1. For the kitchen(i think it will be a 2 side), is there that only comes with the kitchen cabinet set preferably with sink, hood and hob. 2..As for the toilet, i would like to install only hard tempered glass doors for both bathroom. Any suggestions to the listed?? Thank you very much in advance.
  16. Hi everyone! This is Mrs JohnB here. We have learnt a great deal from the users on RenoTalk. Which heater to choose, where to route the air con trunking, how to spray paint, etc. What a treasure trove of helpful homeowners and information this forum is. Thank you. We are excited to finally have a t-Blog. Please feel free to share your opinion; we are new to renovation and would appreciate your advice. So, here goes.
  17. Finally I will be collecting my BTO FLATS keys in 1-2 months time after 3 years of waiting. Was really happy and glad that the wait is over. Any BTO owner would like to share their same sentiment and joy as well as any renovation pointers to share. I had started to look for renovation contractor to renovate my new house. What is the difference between renovation contractor with drawing and one without drawing? Will the charges be the same? Please advice s this is my matrimonial home and want to keep within budget. Thanks a million
  18. We wanted our new home to look very simple 'like nothing at all'. We approached total of 3 IDs and 2 contractors. The quotations from 2 IDs were quite competitive (the another ID took my floorplan and did not get back to us), as for the contractors… I’m quite surprise myself that both quotations were on the high side and told me that I am unable to hack some walls. But to be fair, both different contractors did say that he need to go on site to give us a precise quotation. Yet comparing the psf charges from the contractors, their price are abit higher than the IDs. Ended up, we signed with one of the ID, Ronnie (Mr. OK Can), whom right till now, drawn us with his responsive and straight forwardness, most importantly we are comfortable with his presence. Every time we saw some minor issues, his reply always go 'Ok, can' and things will be fix swiftly. My renovation cost (paid 95% already) is $23,000 excluding flooring which we went direct to Evorich $4,782.90, so summing up to: $27, 783. This is our progress till today:
  19. Hi all, Any future neighbours from this BTO? Maybe just post the block which you've selected
  20. Hi, I am considering Evorich laminated flooring for my 4 room HDB BTO 90m2 internal floor space. I am looking for good and bad review about this company and their laminated flooring. Appreciated all your comments. Thanks in advance. Regards, Ling Jia Yi
  21. Hi! We have been following the posts here for the longest time and it is finally our turn. Here's the typical and unexciting hdb floorplan haha ps: we hate the aircon ledge position
  22. Hey guys! We have just started our renovation journey and thought to share with everyone who reads this forum! Everyone has been exceptionally helpful and assisted us a lot on the journey to finding our contractor as well as furnishings and such. Very excited to get the party started! Located just beside a huge canal, it kinda reminds us of a lake...... therefore the name: "Lake" House We collected our keys in May 2014 and spent a total of approximately 4 months settling our defects. At the same time, we were finding a contractor whom we are comfortable with. We already had our rough designs ready and needed someone to execute it confidently with professional suggestions along the way. We were really pleased to come across MrJ & MrE. They replied promptly and professionally to all of our doubts and understood what we wanted as soon as we had our first discussion. First up, here is our floor plan Our "Lake" View Day 1 (06/10/14) Signed at MrJ & MrE's factory and had a discussion with the both of them regarding all our designs and layout. MrJ did a sketch on all of our carpentry works and understood what we wanted. He then passed us a couple of booklets of laminates for us to browse through. Day 4 (09/10/14) Met with MrE and electrician; ironed out all of our doubts and did planning of lighting and other electrical works. Electrician was really helpful and provided some really good suggestions. Thereafter, we caught up with MrJ at the Lamitak factory to view bigger pieces of the laminates that we shortlisted(a whole bunch of them!) We had serious problem deciding on what laminates to use as the range was massive; when we always thought that a certain design was exactly what we wanted, we will come across another that wavered our decision. Looking at the bigger pieces really helped. It looked so different than when it was in a little sample piece in the booklet. Just when we were about to part our ways, we were informed that the electrician has already started work! How efficient Meanwhile, here's our styleboard Day 6 (11/10/14) A really fruitful day! Met MrE at Hafary (Eunos branch) to select bathroom and kitchen tiles. We were overwhelmed by the wide varieties of tiles. Thankfully MrE introduced us to the sales executive there and she was really helpful. Some pictures of the place There's a good variety of tiles which were in our budget, enough to drive us crazy while finalising our tile, therefore we would advise homeowners to not venture to too many stores to look at more choices because this would only confuse you - making your selection process a nightmare. MrJ met us soon after and we discussed on a couple of changes in our designs and they were really flexible about it. We were glad that they were not the kind who would request for a topup when informed of any changes. Looking at how confused we were, they also gave us ample time to finalise our tiles and laminates.
  23. Hi All, Finally decided to write down my reno journey. Not a fan of writing/blogging but I'll try to note down as detail as possible. Also, pardon my lousy english >.< Here's some photos of the unit. Doggy guarding our maindoor From Entrance Living Room Kitchen Hallway Room 1
  24. Hello!! Like everyone, hubz and I decided to start a T-blog to jot down our reno progress, hoping to share some useful information to future homeowners (just like how we learn from bro/sis here!). We had gotten the keys to our first house in late Aug and almost completed with our BSC rectifying process (will talk more about it later). If everything goes as planned, we will be able to start our reno soon in a week time! Here’s our floor plan and will go into more details of our reno in later post. Open Door Day… HUAT AH~!~!
